What a tragic, fluke accident.

A woman was crushed to death when a horse she was leading fell on her.

Mum-of-two Carol Povey, 45, is believed to have been getting horses in from a field in poor weather when one animal slipped in mud.

Andrew Berrisford, who owns the farm in Cheddleton, Staffs, said: "It was a terrible shock because she was so experienced."

Ex-husband Steve said: "The horse was spooked by something."

Read about that on our local news site.

I used to get emails from her as she had something to do with the Staffordshire Bridleways. I knew the name rang a bell.

A terrible shame, but certainly sounds like a freak accident. Not many horses spook and fall over like that.

She leaves two teenagers, 16 and 19. Terribly sad for all of her family and wide circle of friends and colleagues.
