yesterday at a show in [and dont quote me 100%] halifax i beleive it was.
A lady was presenting her horse for a judge and it reared up kicking her in the head twice.
She was wearing a hat at the time but the horse knocked it off,she was airlifted to hospital where she later died.
She had a 12 year old son who apparently witnessed the whole accident.

well its all part of been realistic every single one of us takes our lives into our hands every single day like you said you can never trust them 100% and as somebody who has been landed on by a rearing horse striking my head it makes me feel lucky to be alive.
 
That is really sad, how awful

Echo you others, we should never take for granted what we are all dealing with. They are so unpredictable.

Its tragic it really is her son and husband must of gone through the worst pain ever been there to witness it is the ultimate.

it does make you stop and think !!
but its what we do and know the risks !!

i think it is tragic and i feel for the son and husband and how awful for them to have been there and watched it happen,my heart goes out to them
 
How tragic ~

and although this woman may have died anyway, I'm STILL banging on about EVERY horse rider/handler being fully trained in life saving techniques.

This was a very tragic accident which happened to one of the nicest women you could have ever met. Kay had spent so much time with Lady teaching her manners and getting her to the stage she was at because she has always been a fairly difficult horse. The event happened at a local show, which was lady's first ever show. However I would like to point out that neither kay's husband or son witnessed the accident happen luckily and it happened so quickly Kay will not have known what was happening.
RIP Kay you will be dearly missed by all your friends and family.

Again please pass on our condolences, what a tragic accident.

We forget that our horses are animals and so unpredicable. My friend horse reared and flipped over onto my husband in May. He had a broken nose, severe concussion, spent the night in hospital and still has not got the confidence back around the horses. The mare that did it is normally really laid back and chilled out, you can never tell.

This unfortunatley is of little consolation to her family xx
 
My mare in the wee picture is normally so quiet, she reared up with me once because she had wolf teeth and i didnt realise it, was trying to put the bit in her mouth. Luckily when she reared up she twisted her feet away from me.

My friend got a horse about 4 months ago, the horse had only arrived at her yard when she decided to start clipping her. Horse reared up and clipped her on the head, shes lucky she got off with a bad headache and a few stitches.

I always wear my hat when working with the youngsters, but i agree. We are risking our life everytime we work/ride our horses.
