Comments suggest she was a dog walker, although how many dogs she was walking isn’t mentioned. It may well be that there were multiple owners present. Thoughts are with her family and friends. I’m not sure how you’d begin to come to terms with it.

I read that. She may have been attacked by a loose dog attacking the ones she was walking. Two were sausage dogs that got loose I read.
 
I read this report in the Daily Mail. It seems that the seven dogs were totally out of control and threatening people and chasing horses too. It's beyond comprehension.
I'd support a law that restricts the number of dogs being exercised in a public place.
The families of the victims and those who witnessed the attacks must be very traumatised.

Me too. I cycle to work and met a lady with 5 huuuge dogs, one started to bark at me, then they all came at me. I usually like dogs, but this was something else.

The lady couldn't hold them and was dragged into a water ditch trying. I'm afraid I put my head down and cycled as fast as I could, I was genuinely scared. I did check she was extricating herself and not drowning, but she should never have had all of those.

Awful news.

I think dogs should be removed from those who have had more than 2 near misses.

Of course it is way too early to speculate, and we may never know in fact, but one wonders how SEVEN dogs happened to be loose in the vicinity.

Hating to say it, but I've seen professional "Dog Walkers" rock-up to local beauty spots where I am and unload a whole lot of dogs from a van, walk them, and then load up and disappear again. Some of these concerns I appreciate are experienced, conscientious, and don't take on dogs they might not be able to manage - but can't help wondering whether this might not have been the case in this awful incident where mebbe things got out of hand and the handler(s) didn't have the experience to contain the situation, and/or had aggressive & strong dogs that managed to escape them.

I was reading comments on a local FB group and it sounds very likely that a loose dog attacked the group of dogs the walker had with her, sadly she had to let go of her group. Very sad, tragic news and horrific outcome.
 
What a terrifying situation. I hope the police give some information/clarity soon as there will be much speculation. Facts are needed and action needs to follow. All of these cases are awful but in an open public space like that is shocking.

If what has been commented is true, the police and/or dog wardens need to actually start taking dog on dog attacks seriously. There are two definite repeat offenders I know of locally, a shepherd x mastiff and an akita. Both I think could pose huge risk should they turn on an owner trying to defend their dog.
 
There are too many 'professional' dogwalkers who take little to no responsibility for the dogs in their care. There are a couple who bring dogs to walk near our property, we often watch them apparently taking no.notice of what the dogs are doing while off their leads. We met one of them when we were walking our dogs one day last year. A spaniel appeared from nowhere, screamed a few times at our dogs and turned tail. At no.point did we hear the walker call for the dog, it was just luck that it rejoined her group.
There should be stricter legislation about the number of dogs that don't live together which can be walked by one person, with proper enforcement, before things go wrong.
 
Its a nightmare. On our local FB page a local farmer and landowner who I know well who has had a couple of sheet mauled and another two killed during two separate attacks by a loose dog, some 9 days apart. They've managed to get a photo of the dog but couldn't shoot it as it was too near the road.

So many out of control dogs.

They would have had to gather them all up and take them somewhere safe until their owners could be traced.
 
This is starting to become quite a repetitive headline, but as above it’s more worrying when it’s in a public place. I know I’d do anything to protect my two. I hope I’m never put in that position especially on my own - the staff that attacked my lovely old boy in the pub beer garden luckily let go just as it was about to get glassed.

You are probably correct. I’ve just read two of the dogs missing were sausage dogs so it does appear that the dog walker was attacked by an unknown dog and the ones her and another person were walking escaped and were later caught and taken into custody. If that’s the case, the fact that she was a dog walker is irrelevant.

I thought that the dog Walker and her dogs had been attacked, not that she was out of control.

Information has not been reported as far as I can see. So perhaps best not to speculate??

The victim of a fatal dog attack in Surrey was walking a number of dogs at the time, police have revealed. The 28-year-old woman from London was attacked in Caterham just before 14:45 GMT on Thursday.

Police said eight dogs were seized at the scene by officers and the owners of these dogs had been identified and were being kept informed of investigations. Insp Lyndsey Whatley said: "I would like to reassure residents that we are confident all the dogs involved are in the custody of police whilst we investigate the circumstances of what has happened."
