Excuse the ignorance huntress is it the norm for whipper in and kennelmaid to be one job ? Or is it that you just took both jobs on. Thanks again for the info.....

It depends on the size of the pack. Some will have Huntsman, first & second whip plus a kennelman/maid who doesn't ride but just looks after kennels & knackering. We have a Huntsman, Kennelmaid & 3 amateur whips (all unpaid 1 is a Master, the other is a lady jockey & our best whipper-in by far & then me.) I do kennels, Hounds & whip in as OH is Huntsman.
Some packs will just have the Kennel man & be hunted by an ametur huntsman who is assisted by amateur whips or maybe proffessional whips in kennels.
Really is no hard & fast rule. When I was at the Percy they had Proffesionally Huntsman, 1st Whip, Kennelman & kennel assistant. (later 2 didn't ride)
Or Wynstay thats is now hunted by an ametuer has a kennelman who as been there for ages! Who will help to whip-in on days.
I help exercise every morning & feed. Whip in 2days a week as that is what we do. Look after kennels for 2 days on my jack when they go off to Peterborough in summer. Then go to the other 2 shows that we go to & hold hounds in the rings. Parade at shows & our Point 2 Point.

What of???
Was hunting today. Start at 6 as usual. lost a hound at 1pm Was out looking till 4pm then a Master rang to say police had rung as someone had picked the hound up off the hill we were trailing on. So ahe was at police station. Rung station which is in next town to us & hound was on its way to a further away station. Got hold of them & the chap that had picked her up still had her so go get her from him. 30mile down road we get to his & he hasn't got dog it is in a dog pound!! Why didn't police tell us that. Rang dog pound & they were closing in 50min & just going off for their tea as thay had been working for 4 hrs so can't go get hound!????? Sorry but I have now been working for nearly 12 hrs & what to get said hound back to its pack. NO.
Have to go back in morning when pound opens at 10am & pay £38 to get her out!! SO got back to kennels at 6.30pm then had kit to clean!!
But yes I wouldn't trade the job for anything!! :grin: :grin:
