never heard of it before. had a look and it is very interesting... i'd like to try it in my field shelters first. expensive, though! hmm. *puts on Wish List*
Astronomical price and wouldn't want my horses feet abraded. Some have enough problems working on a silica sand school with shoes on for an hour so imagine the abrasiveness on this stuff for 12hrs per day?
That or something similar was heavily promoted in the US a few years ago. Big write up in "Equus", a few facilities were given it to test, reviews basically said it worked as promised so long as it was used and managed as directed . . . and never really caught on.
Biggest issues seemed to be the expense of installing it properly and the fact it isn't mucked like an ordinary stall so didn't work well for large barns with lots of rotating staff. I also heard some suggestion that it could get dusty but don't know if that was because of incorrect management.
Honestly, the biggest drawback seemed to be it just isn't enough like "regular" bedding and people don't feel right using it. There was also some debate about whether or not horses "liked" it but who knows how they judged that objectively. Apparently not an idea that's time has come.
That said I wonder if the pressure towards environmentally friendly horsekeeping will bring it back up for discussion. Any reduction in the total amount of waste might become increasingly important as there are crackdowns on disposal etc.
