My horse wears a Fairfax long girth which I’m pleased with and he seems happy in.

It’s fixed a few minor issues and until recently fitted perfectly on the third hole each side.
He’s lost a little weight and now it’s too loose like that but I always keep it slightly on the looser side of tight!
So we are now happiest with one side 4 and one side 3.
This would be fine with a straight un shaped girth but wound you be happy with this?
I’m a bit obsessed with symmetry!
(Can’t wear odd socks!😳)
I worry it must feel terrible!!

I have my boy in the same, as there’s no elastic in it like most girths on the market there’s no give to level the asymmetry out, so ensure it’s always on the same hole on each side. Also was of the mind they make no difference but definitely happier in it than others we have tried.

It would bother me too as I'd worry about comfort (and I routinely wear odd socks 🤣)

I'd either buy a new one in a smaller size or buy a fluffy girth cover for it so I could loosen it a hole.

If the weight loss is to be celebrated (it would be for my horse) then I would decide if there was more weight to come off.
If there was - then maybe a sleeve to 'fill in the gap' for a month or so - albeit not necessarily easy if a shaped girth

If he is now at perfect weight and you want to keep him there - sadly I'd buy the next size girth down so it can sit evenly.

I might even talk to saddler about putting another set of holes in to even it up (like I do when stirrup leathers are half a size too long / short)

He's never been the perfect weight! He will/should loose a bit more now over winter so hopefully will even back out again.
I changed to the contour girth now and its so much better. Need to change my stirrups , hate the sprengers 🤣View attachment 148842

Yeah those stirrups make me a bit nervous! I had to do a rescue dash to a friend last winter who had been riding and leading when the ridden horse spooked and her stirrup snapped, with a fair way to get home and two excited horses! It had rusted under the rubber. Looked absolutely fine otherwise so no sign it was about to give way.

Dex very often wears his 4 holes on one side and 3 on the other, it's this shape:

I have never thought twice about it, I wouldn't have it so close to his legs that one hole (which really is an inch, not even) would make a difference - if it did then it would also be uncomfortable when schooling and stepping under themselves or going around corners.

He makes it VERY clear if something is uncomfortable.

My flex ons are on the black saddle. Im not sure if sprengers are made different, I only put them on to try them since I got them for a bargain 🤣 they hurt my knee anyway 🤣

Just keep checking for discomfort and early signs of rubbing. It's such an extreme shaped girth that it might become an issue, but hard to know.
Thank you! It is a very definite shape and really ideally of course needs to be dead central.
I'll keep an eye. With any luck it will shortly fit nicely on 4 each side. Its just a bit too tight atm

I have a 36" Fairfax dressage girth on a couple of mine and often end up with 1 hole difference. So far, in over 10 years, it hasn't caused a problem for either of them.
