This actually makes me laugh a little but have a feeling I need to fix it!

Had my mum take some photos of me the other night wearing a dress (I uhm... NEVER wear dresses and everyone knows it - and so all my friends have been demanding photos for a while!) and well....

I never realised I can't stand straight!!

I honestly swear it felt like I was stood up straight... evidently not! Now this has me worried though - if i can't even stand straight then surely I'm not riding straight, though nobody has ever really mentioned it?

What should I do?!

Now have cookies and don't laugh too much

Go see an osteopath, they will soon tell you

I have a wonky pelvis and actually ride one hole longer on the left than the right in order to be able to ride straight.

One of the worst things we ladies do is carry a bag over our shoulder, which can throw your whole pelvis out and make you look lopsided.

Loosen your girth so the saddle falls off if you're not sitting straight.

Okay, it would not be sensible to actually do this, but since I've had Scooby (whose roundness and total lack of withers mean that the saddle slides ALL the time) I've been made much more aware of my lopsidedness and I've been kind of forced to even up or fall off! I think I sit a lot straighter now.

Stupid ideas aside, I agree with ChicoMio - osteopath or maybe a chiropractor (are they the same thing?).

ditto chico though I am a chiro lover

only one hole chico....... I think I put it down to stretch but new leathers I was 3 holes out= I need to see someone!

I must be straighter on top though as saddle never moves on rollyish pony and with looseish girth

heh, have found myself with wonky stirrups a few times, and when I've come to adjust them (say to jump) thought 'I didn't realize they were odd!'

Will definitely look at seeing an osteopath/chiropractor in the new year!
Thanks everyone

Glad I'm not the only one. I ride with level stirrups but sit v.slighty lop sided.

It's actually got slightly better since I dislocated my hip.

How much do osteopaths / chiropractors cost? Cos I've always had the same problem and now my back is banjaxed anyway courtesy of midget-sized desks

HR,

depends on your location, round here about £40 for initial consult 25-30 thereafter.

Actually in bristol the city is more though

I followed a girl riding up the road earlier this week and noticed that she had one stirrup lower than the other and was not sitting straight. I drove past her and saw in my rearview mirror that the horse's head was very much tilted and turned to one side.
It really brought it home to me how the way the rider sits can affect the horse.
I too would recommend a chiro or a visit to the GP for a referral to physio (on NHS) if you are noticably uneven. My neighbour has just had an op to straighten her spine and she first noticed that she had a problem when riding.

Try Pilates. I started this 4 weeks ago & the teacher took photos of us individually on the first week & did a posture analysis for us individually. Very revealing! I have also had 2 lunge lessons at a good riding school on one of their horses to help me correct the bad habits I have developed. I aim to continue my weekly Pilates lesson + a lunge lesson once a month (can't afford any more).

My OH has no chance!
His little toe on his right foot was amputated as a child so he only as four AND that leg is shorter (and slightly skinnier) than the other one so he has a little wedge in his shoe!

Can you imagine him with stirrups! hahaha

(He's not a complete retard though, he was beginning to sound it!
