Won't Eat Barefoot Diet

As for how garlic knows which are friendly and which aren't friendly bacteria - well, how do some anti-biotics now how to kill some bacteria but not others?
Some antibiotics kill all (amoxycillin for eg) but of course bacteria have developed resistances. Many antibiotics are specifically designed to target certain bacteria. I don't believe garlic is nor do I believe 'good' bacteria alone have resistance to garlic. Just doesn't make sense to me I'm afraid.

So how does it know which are friendly bacteria? :D Or rather, what defense have friendly bacteria got that unfriendly ones haven't?
Here's one vets take on feeding garlic. http://www.equisearch.com/horses_care/nutrition/feeds/eqgarlic528/

Op, I think you just have to start again introducing the low sugar diet as Obi-one says. Or try speedibeet...

Quite agree, anything that is toxic enough to kill forms of bacteria in the stomach isn't something I want to feed (bad enough when we have to worm the horses!).

OP - Just had exactly the same problem with my mare! Has eaten Fast Fibre for the last year quite happily, last week was on box rest with bute and decided she couldn't possibly eat her feed anymore. Took bute out and still wouldn't touch it.

Have replaced Fast Fibre with Speedibeet and she's wolfing the whole lot down no probs!

Another one whose horse was on fastfibre (not barefoot) and now won't touch it with a barge pole since he had a course of antibiotics for cellulitis.

I tried the he'll eat it if he's hungry method but he just stood at his stable door and yelled at me - How could you make me eat this *rap! I'm starving!! Help - call the RSPCA!! :D

So I gave in and now he is back on D&H Fibre nuts and Hi-fi lite - he relishes that.

For those whose horses won't eat Pro hoof, try pro balance + instead, mine eat it fine and it's slightly cheaper than the pro hoof version. :)

Many of the herbs routinely fed to horses can be toxic in certain circumstances. Mint, for instance, can cause abortion in pregnant mares and if fed to lactating mares can adversely affect the foal if fed at the appropriate dosage. The same applies to humans but again it depends on the amount given so I don't think you need worry about the mint sauce on your lamb unless you really want to be ab-so-lutely certain......

.

Well I have more than doubled the amount of spearmint in my girl's feed and now she will eat her pro hoof! Read the post above about problems with mint. Hopefully she should be okay as definitely not pregnant!

Danilon is just sugar coated bute :)

I give it to my filly out my hand and she just licks it. Easy!
