Hi, having lurked around the H&H forums for years, I've been forced to do my first post as I can't find the answer to this problem?! So firstly I like to say thanks for all the info so far!

My 17yr old gelding (Cruise) started this around Feb this year... not going off the leg for maybe 10/15 mins until he had a poo then he was ok. Vet checked him over, took blood tests, did an internal exam and couldn't find anything (he also got his back checked).

We've had a bad year as he got laminitis in March even though he was not overweight and was kept fit. After a few bouts of low grade laminitis he was diagnosed with cushings and is now on pergolide. Anyway, after riding him again now for a couple of months this problem of not going off the leg til he poos is still ongoing.

Has anyone heard of this before? I'd appreciate any help!

I have owned 2 horses like this - one was a lovely show cob and I used walk him round and round before a class to ensure he had 'relieved' himself before going in the ring - otherwise he would be really stuffy.
My current cob is a fantastic jumper but if he hasn't had a poo before his round is definitely less forward going into a jump - I can't get a decent canter on a hack either if he hasn't done one.
It can be a little frustrating but imagine how you would feel if you were asked to run up a hill needing to go!!

thanks for that, good to know he's not the only weirdo

I'm glad now I posted, I'm going to stop worrying about it and just have patience. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Another thing I forgot to say - don't ride him straight from the field with a bellyfull of grass. If possible give 1/2 hr with nothing to eat to let his digestion settle, (or to do a poo), before you ride.
Enjoy!
