My boy will not lift his tail to put tail badage on. Is this a sign of a bad back or should i just regard it as a quirk? I never used to notice this problem but he gets quite figety when I go to bangage it up although he likes it being groomed etc.

Depending on how tall your horse is i always put my lads tail over my shoulder,So the dock part is resting on my shoulder. Then he usually farts.

Don't know, my mare is the same if that's any consolation. Don't think she has anything wrong with her back, just doesn't like her tail bandaged (clamps it down), but doesn't mind when I wash it (quite floppy then).........WEIRD..........I just put a tail guard on to travel now!!

Not really sure but my mare wont lift her tail and does have a bad back (sacroliac)! So it can be a sign

But she also holds it to one side when being ridden and I think this is a bigger sign! Get someone to watch or video your horse to see. I think some horses can be a bit sensitive sometimes.

Sunny won't lift his tail at all which makes putting tail guard on difficult, however when sis is riding him it swishes a lot so he has no problem moving it!
Pidge on the other hand loves having his dock scratched either side and lifts his tail high and to the side its being scratched and if he's been really good he loves the hairless bit being rubbed - he's one spoilt horse

however it does make plaiting his tail difficult as he doesn't keep it still

i fink it is just a part of their *lovable* nature! if you itch just above the tail they lift their tail! a weird but wonderful trick...

I've got one like that its soooooooooooooo anoying!!! Spend ages rolling the tail bandage back up (as it pops off across the yard as little sod clamps it down suddenly) I take a few more in my pocket.....far less anoying
