Hi, Does anyone know of any sites that provide FACTUAL information including FIGURES on pro / cons of building a new stable block from breeze blocks rather than wood?
It for planning permission so needs to be 'evidence'.

Thank you.

No I am assuming the planners are saying that wooden buildings are more traditional for your area and therefore they want wood rather than breeze blocks for the construction.
I think it might be difficult to find evidence to support using breeze blocks over wood if I picked up the wrong end of the stick in your post I am sorry.

I'd contact some builders or stable makers locally. Around us there is absolutely no chance on earth of getting anything other than wood. Someone in the next county got block stables, but had to clad them in wood - may be worth a suggestion.

Perhaps a good arguement would be fire risk? Would they be close to other premises. Or wind - would they be in the open and in windswept areas..??

We lost 18 wooden stables in a fire and have rebuilt them in block. There is no way we would ever have wooden stables again and we haven't had a problem with planning for the new block ones.

We built a block of 3 stables a few years ago using concete blocks. Ours needed to be clad with timber as per PP. Think they are deemed to be more natural looking. Ours are often mistaken for timber stables but are obviously so much more substantial inside.

I couldn't find anywhere with this information when I needed it.
I would agree with the above about wooden stables being a fire hazard. You could offer to clad them but this would obviously be expensive however this may meet the councils requirement to be 'in keeping with local area'. Good luck!

The ones that I was talking about being block and clad in wood were in West Yorks too! Obviously their thing!

We would have loved something other than wood, but our planning dept made it totally clear that nothing other than wood would be passed..:( Too many stone stables locally had been converted into houses around here, so they wouldn't have any more "substantial" materials. I think we may build inside in block at some point - they never looked once they'd passed it!
