My boys are chewing the paddock fence and soon will be through it if i don't stop them
Last year I creosoted (sp) it and put tape along the top but that now doesn't seem to be working and its only on two certain areas and I think the wood is weaker in these areas anyway.

Do any of the shop bought sprays/paints work? Is there any home made recipies which work?

Poo and water - slosh all over!
Are they dificent in anything that's making them do that? Perhaps get a paddock lick to rule it out? The rockies ones are ace (no sugar and don't melt away!).

They have a vitamin and mineral supplement in there dinners, I don't want to use electric fencing in there really if i can avoid it.
I had thought of putting out some paddock licks to keep them busy but don't want them having the sugar and they usually get in a real mess and ruined with the rain but will have a look into the one you have suggested.

Looks like I will be painting with poo tonight.

Someone advised me to run a line of galvanised wire along the top of the rails as then the horses wouldn't like or want to chew it - sounds like a good idea but haven't actually tried it.

I have noticed that they don't chew the wooden posts that have sheep wire attached so it may just work!

plenty of ad lib hay/hayledge in the field. spread into several piles to keep them amused til the grass comes through. and if you really like your post and rail fencing run some live electric fencing along the top.

A friend told me the other day she paints her post tops with a mix of fairy liquid and tabasco sauce!!! Apparently the fairy keeps it gooey enough not to run off, but is thins enough to easily paint on, and the tabasco adds an extra kick of disgustingness to the taste! Have not seen this in action, but certainly sounds vile enough to work!
