My arena surface is about 8 years old and is a proper wood chip surface which was small chips. Its is needing replaced/ topped up with something as is deep in places and slippy. I have been given 6 trailer loads of wood/ bark chips from fallen trees. I wasn't keen to use this as some of the bits are quite big. Does anyone have any opinions on whether I should top up my arena with this? Thanks

I was in the same position as you and, after some research on how good the top up would be to ride on (like soup!) I decided to take up the woodchip (2 days work with a digger) and then put down Xride. As I have a good solid foundation on my arena I didn't need a membrane so the whole thing was actually cheaper than buying a load of replacement woodchip and it's way better to ride on. Might be worth a look? PM if you want to know the details of the supplier I used :)

Ooh frannieuk that's exactly what i am doing, removing woodfibre (trying to c if anyone wants it for free if prepared to collect it) then rolling stone to level it replacing membrane where needed and putting down xride!! How is the xride? How much did you have if you don't mind me asking, i have been quoted 88 bags for my 20x40m arena, costing alot more than my woodfibre did but hoping it will last longer!!
