All of the instruction say 'wet the pellets'. Doesn't this lead to a damp bed?
Told you it was a numpty question.
Told you it was a numpty question.
I made this thread a while back and a few of us explain what we do but sometimes pictures speak a thousand words

And don't worry about asking numpty questions...we all have to do it for something or other![]()
My beds are alot smaller then this, I am worried i will waste it laying a big bed. He started off with a nice very good size bed but he trashes it!!!! I think I will make his bed bigger and see!!! But his messer then what you picture showed of your horse!!! I would love it if my horse was that clean!! lol x
Not wanting to hijack the post at all but does anyone use wood pellets with straw?
My horse is stabled in a very old barn and the floor sort of dips slightly in the centre of the stable... which is typically where my horse also wee's! I have rubber mats down which does help to level but I find with straw that the wee tends to puddle in one spot then it ruins the straw and I have a lot of wastage even from my horse just doing one wee.
He is generally turned out 24/7 but does come in once or twice a day for a feed/ rest/ eat extra haylage/ groom etc and he does have the odd night in.
I have thought about putting some shavings underneath the straw where he wee's (tends to wee in same spot so rest of bed remains relatively clean)
Having seen all these threads about wood pellets would these work instead? could I just put whole pellets underneath the straw to soak up wee or would they just get trampled round when he walks round his box or am I better soaking them?
Tempted to get a bag to give it a go!
In your situation, I would just pop a bag of dry pellets down on that area alone and leave it there. Lay straw over the top and take a look under the straw every few days![]()
And another for adding dry pellets to an established bed![]()
