was wondering if any1 has any feedback for me on wood pellet bedding? in particular i was thinking of ordering a pallet of premium wood pellets from liverpool wood pellets as it works out less than 3.50 a bag and they reckon that after the initial bed u only need one bag a week??? the main reason im thinking of doing it however is the mucking out time... i mucked out someone elses stable who has natures best wood pellet bedding the other day and it took my literally 3 minutes... wee poo and everything and i desperately need to save time so i can actually ride!

my main concerns over wood pellets are that it wont be comfy enough cos it never looks very thick in my mates stable and also im worried my fat sod will eat it... thats the main one, i wouldnt want him to make himself ill with a belly full of wood and it does look like the nuts he has in his dinner!!!

so if anyone can help id be very grateful!!!! thanks

I use them with mine. My filly is despicably dirty and they don't work brilliantly with her. They're no worse than anything else I've tried, just not better either.

However, with my big lad who is much cleaner they are amazing! One bag a week, wet out once a week and it takes me literally five mins to muck pick him each day and sweep it back. Brilliant and such a labour saver.

Both of them are happy to lie down on them so I assume they're comfy enough.

Neither of them have ever tried to eat them although the filly will eat shavings given half a chance!

I've tried Corley bio wood ones, white horse bedding ones and liverpool ones!

I don't like white horse ones as they seem to take longer to soak and are darker and don't fluff up as much as the other two brands.

Liverpool ones and Corley ones are basically exactly the same as one another. I get through, at most, 2 bags per horse per week. Some weeks brown horse only has half a bag in his box. Filthy filly usually needs 2.

I use Aquamax, I have tried other brands and do prefer Aquamax, one of mine is a filthy sod and I use more with him. I started using them years ago to save time, I have several to muck out and toddlers in tow, they save me so much time!!!

i think ive heard of the aquamax but nowhere round me stocks any wood pellet bedding so i cant try them out and whatever one i decide on i have to order a whole pallet of so i really want to make the right decision!!!

im thinking of taking the wee out every day same as ive always done as i hate the idea of my precious boy laying on wee! i wonder if that means i will get through alot more bags.... Even so i think at 3.50 a bag it'll be cheaper and much quicker than shavings

just hope he doesnt eat it!

Leave the wet in. It really does work better that way. If you leave it at the end of a few days (or a week if you're me) you'll have a nice solid lump to hoik out. I doubt you'd find a wet patch to remove every day as they soak up an awful lot!

I've used them for several months now and wouldn't use anything else. I have always bought the cheapest and my friend started off by buying the ones that were supposed to be the premium version.

So we compared notes hers came in a nicer bag and the pellets had a real shine to them.
We each put one of our bags in our wheelbarrows and then added a bucket of water to each. The result was not what we were expecting. Hers expanded maybe 10% more than mine but what we did not like about hers was that hers turned into a very fine dust.

On most of the instructions they say to wet the pellets before using them. Yes you have to when making the initial bed but it depends how you use them.

Most people only do a big muck out once a week. I prefer to do it twice a week because although you get very little wastage with the pellets it is heavier to muck out if there is a lot of wet. But as long as I still have a fairly deep bed I just mix in the dry pellets and they work great.

If you can buy with other people so that you can do a bulk order and save money.
