I use Natures best as well. Have tried Philips and Liverpool wood pellets and found I ended up using twice as much as with the Natures Best as they just broke down immediately into powder and the Natures best seems to absorb far more. I use one bag a week on each horse who is in at night. if horses have to be in 24/7 I use 2 bags a week. Very economical - £5.20 a week per horse. It also breaks down brilliantly on the muck heap and the allotment holders love it, I also spread it on the fields after it has rotted for 3 months.
I use Liverpool and it works great for me, but spreading it on land is not that brilliant an idea as any wood based bedding provides pretty much b*gger all as a fertiliser.
i use liverpool wood pellets
they have been fab for my horses, from the super neat one to the messy wet one.no dust, cheap, quick to muck out and the muck heap is tiny!
Just started using Liverpool wood pellets and so far so good especailly for my big stallion who is the wettest dirtest creature to ever walk this earth!
Actually it is fantastic to spread on the fields, it is primarily horsemuck, with a very small amount of bedding, it rots down to an extremely fertile black powder, we use a mix of worms in it from Wriggly Wrigglers so it breaks down completely in 3 months. Our local allotment holders really rate it as a fertile medium. It is far better than straw as the percentage of horse muck to bedding far far higher with wood pellet bedding. You do however need to be sure that the wood pellets you are using are made from untreated softwood. Many of the new companies are using waste wood and a mix of hard and soft wood. Many hardwoods are treated with chemicals which are poisonous to horses and should not be used on the land
I changed from Natures Best to LWP due to the cost and have found no difference.
I am also training myself that at the end of the day the horses poo & pee on bedding so providing it's warm and dry my bed's don't need to look like snow white duvet's !!
