Hiya - been along time since i've posted on here so bear with me!
I'm looking to save some money this winter (who isn't.....) and considering substituting my current shavings bed for something else.
Problem is...... i'm on a livery yard who stipulate in the contract that I can only source my bedding and roughage from them, and I can't buy in my own stuff. Last winter, we were on shavings at £7.50 a bale (which is actually cheaper than our local tack store), but even so I was using about 6-8 bales a month. I've since had the opportunity to invest in rubber matting, and have halved the amount of shavings i'm using the last couple of night's he's been in.
So i'm interested in these wood pellets that expand when you water them..... but I don't know how easy it is to dispose of them? That will probably be the deciding factor for the YO's who are farmers, not horse people (they hire an AI to run it as yard manager).
So can anyone offer some insight as to price, longevity, disposal etc, or offer some alternatives that I could put to the YO's?
