Okay I know there are a lot of posts about them, i cant decide on a make. Ive got aquamax as a trial really and like it. People say dont use recycled and one with chemicals in it ie Liverpool. So what make, Puffin, corley or are they the same as liverpool, manco, plq, ecomax. Help in a word please. thanks

I use Corley - very nice people and as cheap as anywhere.

I've not actually tried either but have had a bowl full to see what they were like soaked and really liked it. Some friends of mine tried Liverpool pellets and said they were very similar to Aquamax. I thought Liverpool say there are no chemicals in theirs?

Might be worth a try, dont quote me on it but i am sure they say no chemicals!
There is also Lancashire wood pellets you could try?

The sad person I am, I got some samples from various companies and did a test experiment last night on how much they absorb/fluff up for a given weight of each pellet.!!! (I know, its winter and dark and I have far too much time on my hands!!

Anyway, out of the four I tested (Liverpool WP; Corley; 5 Star Bedding (which is my current one that I use) and White Horse Bedding, Corley came out far and away the best!!

5 Star came out worst in my opinion - squidy sand on the same amount of water that kept the others a nice consistency, so won't be using them again, although have to say I still much prefer the 5 star pellets that I currently have to the paper bedding I switched from.

LWP were OK, but very dark and didn't expand or absorb as much as Corley or White Horse Bedding.

Between Corley and White Horse Bedding there was very little to choose (except obviously price!!!!), both fluffed up about the same amount, although Corley just pipped it and absorbed the same amount of water (I drained off excess into a measuring jug....!)

Interestingly despite all the marketing stuff that says White Horse and other "proper" horse beddings are better/whiter/more absorbent etc, the Corley and White Horse looked EXACTLY the same in consistency and colour, so that is a load of rubbish.

I know what I will be ordering next time that's for sure! I was going to test Thirsty Bed and Ecomax too, but seem to have mislaid the Thirsty Bed sample that they sent and Ecomax didn't send me anything, despite emailing me to question me further when I asked for a sample.

One thing I will say about LWP, is that I asked for a very small sample bag and they sent me a whole 10kg bag free of charge as a sample!!!

I'm glad I did the experiment though, as I have been put off trying the cheaper fuel pellets like Corley because of the marketing stuff put out by other companies, as I was worried about dust and allergies with my hyper allergic mare. Seeing the Corley and WHB in bowls next to each other, made me realise its exactly the same stuff no matter what they say!

That's a really helpful post doublethyme I've been thinking about using wood pellets for a few weeks now do think il put an order in with Corley today :-) thank you!!!!!
