Good evening,

Just ordered my first 65 bags of White Horse platinum plus wood pellets. Now I know how to set the up, but am wondering how everyone manages them on a weekly basis.
Do you take wee out everyday? Or weekly?
How many bags do you use a week?

I am currently on cardboard and although very absorbant can be very heavy and difficult to move around when a bit damp! Plus at £5.50 a bag it's getting a tad expensive.

My horse is a fairly clean boy, poos all in one place, which is great but very heavy to lift when he has been in all night. Bedding on solid rubber matting and half bed at back of the box.

Thanks guys.

I took out poo daily plus the worst of the wet. I mixed in with a bag of shavings for comfort. I used a bag a week. It'll be easy in this weather, in summer you might want to dampen it down if very dusty.

Thank you so much. Ugh appreciated. It's the daily management I need to know about lol...I'm sure I'll manage it. Took me ages to get my head around the cardboard though, so hoping I can get to grips with this bit quicker.

I meant to say "much appreciated" not sure where ugh came from

I think you need to live with it for a while then see how it goes. A friend couldn't cope with the brown colour once it had been down a while and the lack of three foot banks!

I take out poo daily and remove wet when it mulches to the top ... boy pees in one place which helps. Once a week I add unsoaked bag to space left by wet removal and cover with rest of bed. I find the least you disturb it the easier it is to manage. Mini Shetland I add one back a month or so and don't remove any wet at all.

My horse poos and pees pretty much all in one place, so his bed is easy to manage.

I take out all the poos and pee out daily. It's all in one area, so the majority of the bed simply needs tidying. I add one bag of pellets per week, occasionally two if he's been in longer than usual.

It's very cost effective at approximately £3.40/bag, versus £6.50/bag which is what I used to pay for shavings. Much easier to muck too I find, and a way smaller muckheap.

I take poos off the top every day then once a week take out the wet. I put one bag in a week which i put in dry and underneath the bed. I only get about half a barrow of wee out a week and was getting double that a DAY on shavings :)

I treat mine like a shavings bed and lift it every day. My horse doesn't wee most nights but poos a LOT! so by the time i've taken them out I might as well lift the whole lot. I use with rubber mats so don't need a huge bed, a few inches deep.

To 'cook' it, I got a tip from here of using boiling water, they plump up quicker that way. Some just put a full bag into the stable dry, some do as I do, you just have to try it and see what works for you and yours. I love them for their ease of storing, cheapness and effectiveness
