Has anyone used wood pellets as bedding for horses? I believe they need to have had water added in order for them to swell and soften, then they look like sand!

I use them, yes they do need to be watered to start off the bed but don't over do it!

I use them!
You're right about the pellets + water = sand
But you should still have some pellets left remaining in the bed otherwise it's been oversoaked, the amount you use depends on the brand so it's safest to follow instructions given on the bags/website.
Are you thinking about using them? There are quite a few wood pellet related threads scattered about on here if you do a search

Love them! Used for both my horses this winter and can't c myself changing away from them anytime.
