Anyone use these please, how do you get on with them? I'm thinking of changing to them as have a wet horse and shavings work out expensive.
 
They are very absorbent, economical, they make a good firm base so poo usually stays on top unless horse is very messy so therefore easy to muck out.
Good cushioning for feet too

The downside is they can get very dusty in a dry summer unless you wet it everyday. If you like having banks that is difficult with wood pellets
 
Thanks, only stable in winter really. Just want something easy to muck out and not too expensive. One horse wet and messy. They have rubber matting too.
 
Im on wood pellets, can make a normal bed (banks and all!) very easily and its clean. Downside is yes they can be dusty in very dry weather. Works well with a wet mare, costs me alot less than aubiose/shavings used to!
 
Hi yes it's definitely worth a try. As the others have said it gets dusty in summer but it sounds like that's not a issue for you.
I find it very easy to muck out unless you have a horse that scatters poo and traipses it round as the bits dry out and are so tiny it's hard to get them but on pellets they look really obvious!
I will be using it again this winter.
 
Thanks for replies so far. Any other views please, want to change from shavings really. Have tried straw. Don't know anything about straw pellets. We have one horse with dust allergy so don't want anything dusty.

Wood pellets get very dusty, especially in the summer.
 
I've used straw, miscanthus and wood pellets (aquamax and verdo). Out of all of them I prefer the aquamax-a nicer bed and the bags go further but due to muck heap considerations and giving muck to gardeners, I'll be going back to miscanthus pellets. They are slightly less dusty as well I think but have had to water mine in the hottest weather a few times. Verdo put me of using wood pellets for a long time, didnt like them at all.

I use a small amount (4 bags) at the back of a stable for a wet pooey mare who is in during the day and I find them much more absorbent and less smelly than wood shavings. I don't wet them at all so they stay pellet like until she wees on them (which I leave in mostly) but they do form a firm base. She won't lie down on them and I don't think I would like a full bed with them and I don't use them for my clean gelding as think the shavings make a nicer bed.
 
I tried them last year along with a few other different types of bedding, I always end up going back to shavings, I hate rubber mats so I like a big deep bed and the pellets just dont offer this it never looks like a lovely shavings bed, although I do use them for the guinnea pigs cage and they work a treat for him I use the thirsty bed ones at the moment, one thing I noticed you can never smell any urine in his cage so for that reason alone they do a great job.
 
I love wood pellets, have used most brands and the White Horse are definitely the best, Verdo are by far the worst.

I'd never use anything else and have tried most other bedding for the small useless ginger one who box walks so much that she grinds shavings to dust (she's has mats too).

I also use them on my smelly and very wet gelding and they are the most absorbent bedding I've found and also I can muck out and not smell like horse wee :D
 
I use wood pellets and I wouldn't want to use anything else. Mucking out is a five minute job.
Dustiness varies with the brand - as others have said Verdo are the worst. Five star professional are good but the best I've found are Woodlets (recommended by someone on here). I've been using them all summer with no problem with dust.
 
Love wood pellets, this will be my 4th winter on them. Have a very messy horse and they are economical in comparison (with exception of straw) and i dont feel like i need to disinfect myself from the wee stench afterwards, they are fab!!
 
Love LWP. It's been a revelation using them with my mare, I can now muck out in two minutes flat and fill half a tub trug instead of two thirds of a wheel barrow. If you find them dusty just give them a watering. It does kick up the dust when you sweep the bed back after mucking out but it spine settles and doesn't kick up when the horse walks around on it. The savings are clear too!
 
I use them and find them brilliant! My stable has a hard earth floor, i never get a smell from them and it is very easy and quick to muck out. As far as economy goes you can't beat them. I use LWP, I buy them by the pallet load and at the moment I'm using 1 bag every 2 weeks (my boy is in for 10 hrs a day). I wouldn't use anything else!
 
I use wood pellets, have done for years. They are very comfortable, I've tested them myself when sitting on them to trim horse's tail. I've also fallen over onto them, tripped over her bucket, again the landing was soft and comfortable. Don't buy Verdo, they're rubbish and dark before the horse has even soiled them. I'm keeping my supply stocked up with Snowflake wood pellet cat litter (yes, really!) from Home Bargains, slightly smaller than 10kg bags but they seem much more absorbent than Corley who are my favourite.

Sorry to hijack the thread , but how much is the cat litter from Home Bargains?
 
Tabithakat- which ones do you get from White Horse? I guess not the Verdo, so Platinum or Woodlets? They are both cheaper than liverpool wood pellets- are they as good / better, if you have used both? Thanks :)
 
Yes, Tess Love. They fluff up a lot more than the Corley ones and are much brighter. Probably akin to White Horse Premium though I've never had the dosh to buy those for my horse to pee and poo on.

Thank you 9tails just looking at something else with 15 litres and it mentions 10kg so these are actually really good value - plus by chance I pass one of their shops on the way to horses happy days!
