I'm posting in this lounge as I thought you hunting types are more likely to know the answer.... I have a huge flock of wood pigeons wander daily up & down my paddock. Someone mentioned that they are in fact eating the new grass shoots not insects?!

Doesn't the grass eating hierarchy go something like this... a few pigeons equal a rabbit, which a few rabbits equal a sheep, couple of sheep equal a horse eakkk. No wonder I have no grass.

Oh dear. In that case I think you've had it. You'll just have to get used to your feathered friends. At least their "cooo cooo coo" call is rather relaxing.

Get your local gamekeeper in to shoot them!

They should beable to put decoys down and get rid of most of them. They will be destroying your grass seed, as they are with the sown fields just now!

If you know who runs your local shoot, try to contact them and tell them you have a wood pigeon problem. There are usually a lot of willing folk who will shoot them - my OH spends most of his weekends out of the pheasant season, shooting pigeons. They make good eating and there is no need to pluck them, just cut the breasts out.

either get someone to shoot the pests or get a dummy owl.(we got one off ebay, it worked brilliantly last year after sowing barley and today we put "him" up again, nothing with wings will come near!)

Nope...... The way to go is deep fried in butter and then with a redcurrent and cream sauce.... Looooooovely :O

My OH will come and shoot them for you :) :) If you are anywhere near :)
