Woodlander Set Adrift

I haven't used him, and (there is a mention of this bloodline on a FB Group at present) I wouldn't simply because of his breeding on the sire's side. They are known for sharpness and the only time I saw Set Adrift he was more than misbehaving. Lovely looking horse though!

I'd only consider him on a very steady mare. WB breeders have long used a dash of TB to their breeding programmes.

Hi Endrete,

We bought Set Adrift sixteen years ago from Lord Howard de Walden. We bought him because in German dressage breeding (and Dutch) his lines are significant improvers with stallions such as Shogun xx: Swazi xx (the sire of the important Trakehner Elite stallion, Consul) and Sarosxx the sire of many Dutch stallions including Belisar.

He was bred for the Derby and won a Derby trial before getting a virus. This caused a small blood vessel to burst as they rushed him back into training for the Derby. He was then no good as a classic racehorse for a top owner such as Lord Howard, and was for sale.

His temperament is fantastic but if a mare has a tricky temperament, he will not make her cooler. There are a number of children around by him. We bought him to breed with old fashioned warmblood mares and this is what he does best. He has had a very good daughter exported to Germany where they value the thoroughbred more than we do and that daughter is now eventing.

He is also an exceptional mover for a thoroughbred, perhaps a bit straight behind, and is graded with all main UK Studbooks. This is not an advertorial only a response to your question. He is with us because he is wonderful. His son Sea Cruise will go to the Futurity this year.
