I'm (still!) trying to decide on a new yard. Does anyone here have any experience of Woodredon please? I've had a few PMs with some very helpful people in the area, but would really appreciate any other thoughts people may have as I'm desperate to make the right move. PM me if you prefer.

Also, does anyone know where exactly Glyngates in Upshire is? I've seen it recommended a few times on here but I can't find it despite endless googling....

thanks lovely people :)

I have already PM'd about Woodredon, but the second one I haven't heard of. Although I do know Upshire and I know you want to do lots of hacking. The hacking in Upshire isn't as great ( although has a fab hack around Warlies) and lots of roadwork. The Woodredon hacking is fantastic.

The hacking in Epping forest around Woodredon is easily accessible form Upshire. I have heard good things about Glygates, but no personal experience.

Woodredon however I have alot of experience of and my personal opinion is that it is over priced and the standard of care does in no way match the prices they charge.

Hope this helps

Glyngates is in Fernhall Lane Upshire - off Crown Hill/Horseshoe Hill - postcode is EN9 3TL. Know both well, have friends at both places. Glyngates is lovely small livery yard but as far as I know there is always a waiting list for spaces. No problem accessing good hacking in Epping Forest from Upshire via the motorway bridge over the M25.
Woodredon is entirely different, much larger and is a riding school as well as a livery yard, but has the asset of being situated with direct access to the forest and great hacking.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Laurenbay - yes, I'd like hacking so that is important, but given I have two miles worth at the moment anything is an improvement :) Thanks again for your PMs, they've been really helpful.

Kittenkent - do you know where Glyngates is? I can't actually find it!

thanks guys :) I think I've made my decision but I can't help worrying - particularly with full livery the standard of care is so important as I have to trust them 100%, and you never really know until you get there I suppose

Oooh fab, thank you :) Really cheeky, but you don't happen to have a phone number for them do you? If not I shall write them a good old fashioned letter :D

im at glyngates and have been there for the last 10 years!!!

i have four there! great yard, hacking is great easy access to epping forest plus have warlies and can go up towards harolds park farm. very friendly yard none of the bitching. lovely summer fields, winter mud paddock turn out! workable size Arena with lights...
im on DIY (includes breakfast and lunch feeding) but there is full livery option.

id prefer a smaller livery yards to a large riding school and livery.

Supergirl you must be right near me! I am stabled near Harolds Park Farm! I love the Warlies hack and try to go often. Haven't been in about a year though :(

Warlies Is One of my ponies favorite rides.... he knows he gets to have a cheeky canter!

you should get over there the ground has dryed out nicely x:D:D

awww, all these posts are bringng back memories! I used to be a sharer on a little cob at Southend Farm and got to know people at Glyngates, Woodredon, Harold Park, etc. Lovely hacking in the forest and Warlies too.
Glyngates has always had a waiting list as it's a small yard. Woodredon's also a riding school and so a much larger yard.

Cor, bringing back lots of memories for me too. I kept my horse in Fernhall Lane back in the early 80's at a private yard owned by Mr Chasney. There was a 'posh' yard a little further down the lane where they kept TB's. I wonder if that is now Glyngates? The hacking round there was excellent pre the M25 but I ran into trouble while they were building the road and you had to negotiate serious road works to get to the Forest.

Very pleased to read you can now ride round Warlies. In the 70's/80's it was a disputed permissive ride and I rode it regularly hoping that I wouldn't meet the tenant farmer. One day I wasn't so lucky and was chased by a very large tractor off the estate and out onto the road at speed. Luckily no cars were coming. I did report it to the Police but had no witnesses so my word against his.

I loved it round there. Kept my horse at High Beech RS, then Upshire back to High Beech and latterly at Manor Farm before moving to Kent in 89. Still love the Forest to this day and miss it enormously.

Thanks so much guys :) Can anyone tell me whereabouts on Fernhall Lane it is please? Trying to work out if it is viable without a car and it's a very long lane :)

It's just down from where Fernhall Lane takes a left fork & Long Street makes a right fork. If you goggle the post code EN9 3TL it will show you exactly where it is on the Satellite map - it's named on there.
