I took Canto out for a proper hack on his own last night! I've had him for about 18 months and when I first got him I couldn't even go out in company - he was dangerous
I've managed to get him hacking out in company, and at the beginning of the summer I set a goal to be hacking out on our own, but had given up on that idea a month or so ago.
Anyway, Canto has been at the yard I work on at weekends and I've been having lessons and working on his napping. He's improved so much and last night I was feeling brave so thought I'd have a go...
We got down the drive, turned up the road and got a few feet along when he tried to spin - I put into practise what I've been taught and got him going again - we carried on and he was good as gold
A bit hesitant sometimes, but didn't do anything else naughty
We went round a busy village and came back, a tractor and trailer passed us and he was fine
I'm Soooooo pleased with myself, and with him
You know those times when you really love your horse and really enjoy them? I'm so happy with him at the moment
Sorry - a bit self indulgent but it's taken us so long to get here it feels like a huge achievement. I had almost resigned myself to the fact that we wouldn't be able to hack on our own
