So got to the yard, and OH very kindly mucked out whilst I made up feeds. Then we wrestled a bale of hay into a bunch of nets, ready for use and soaked this evening's net. Got the yard swept up, everything neat, etc. Paid our livery bill on time. Freaked out at sight of tiny mouse...it made me jump, lol!

Brought the brown hippo cross connemara in from field, and brushed off enough mud to reveal that she is in truth an arab, and grey to boot!

Tacked up, with a little help from fellow livery after the muddy mare decided she wanted to grow by about six hands...dang horse:rolleyes:Got saddle girthed up nice and slowly. Mounted - mare stood like a statue at mounting block - only to realise that I hadn't let my stirrups down, doh! Rescued by YO whilst mare stared around her (I think my horse is ashamed of me:o).

Victory time! Set out for the sand school, and no attempt by mare to trot back to the washbay! Yippee! Tootled about in the school for about ten minutes or so. No head tossing, and no taking off into trot of doom either:D Just nice collected walk and a lot of turning, serpentines, etc. It's the tiny victories that count...

Jaffa cakes for any that may want them...I think I may bake a cake for YO and fellow liveries, as they were so nice!

Anybody else making progress riding wise?

Yay for tiny victories!

I got the best canter ever out of my boy a few days ago, he is a hindenburg like 17hh 19yo and we canter but it has always been a 'wheres the jump' type canter. I have finally got a nice contact/balance etc, he felt so weird I asked my friend to watch as I thought he could be a little lame. 'No, that's just how it should feel when he is cantering nicely!'

So rocky and smooth, felt all warm and fuzzy! :D

The trot of Doom is a very fast, bumpy trot, lol! My mare has two levels of trot: Doom and normal. When she is feeling fresh, she will try to scoot off into trot of Doom, often with a bit of head tossing thrown in to boot.
My response has been to ditch her martingale and ride with as loose a rein as I can. She is starting to understand that she can relax and move at walk, as well as trot:) I love it when she trots properly; it's very smooth and easy to ride.

Trot of Doom is bone jarring:eek:
