And she was sooooo good !!

I sat on missy for the very first time , Shes never been sat on before and bless her , she was an absolute angel .

Long reined her fully tacked and she was as per usual her laid back self , I had forgotten my hat and being that I have no brains in my head and that it is small

, My 7 year old sons hat fitted me .

A lovely livery who I have got very fond of was there , her mare and missy go out to the field together . She held missy while I hopped about , missy takes no notice at all, So grab a chair , as most of you know shes a big girl for her age and Im a short arse .

Leaned over her and slowly chucked my leg over and all the time she was too busy chewing on the lunge line

I gently squeezed my legs around her and she didnt move at all, squeezed and clicked using my voice and she slowly walked on listening to me the whole time , but sooooo relaxed looking , all the time chewing on the lunge line

Did one full lap of the arena , halted her and gentle kick on and she was BRILLIANT !!!

Kitten was playing nearby , not bothered .
Low flying helicopter flew over head , not bothered .
Livery came up on her motorbike , not bothered .

All while I was on her back .

It felt so good and she felt sooo relaxed and unphased by it all .

Gave her a big hug, jumped off and nearly cried

She will now go out into the field for a month(obviously before we have to bring them in for the winter ) and have a well earned break .

. Its such a great feeling isn't it? I backed my horsey (chestnut in sig) in 2006 and it the best feeling ever when you finally get to that stage, after all that work

First thread I saw this morning and the moment I read the title, I thought "yaaay!"

She's a good girl and behaved as I thought she would. I've never had a horse, who has had lots of time spent on groundwork and inhand work, ever be a problem for getting on for the first time. I bet you're glad you did it - just gives you a bit of an idea about how she will be in the Spring when you back her properly.

Aww thank you catdragon x

Aww thanks tia , Too true. She has had loads of handling and at the same time she has been allowed to be a youngster and be out in the field with a few of the other youngsters , Our livery yard has grew some what, so shes out in the field with a 3 year old , a 4 year old and an older mare who mothers them all . So I do hope and I would like to think shes had the best start I can possibly give her . I am so glad I did as she was fab like I knew she would be but how fab well I just wasnt expecting it
