(DISCLAIMER: This is completely self indulgent but I don't care!!!)

Well, I think I can safely say I have cracked my mare

Something about my new dressage instructor that motivates the hell out of me. As soon as I rode into the arena today her chin was on the floor and she couldn't speak LOL When she managed to get her words out she was full of praise for how far P and I have progressed in a week - she said that P looks like a different horse altogether and she reckons our walk and trot work would score us well in Prelim and Novice

Our canter is still pretty shocking but the poor girl's muscles are prob SO tired by the time we progress onto canter that we haven't pushed it - I can also feel the saddle halting the shoulder movement so once we have our new saddle we should hopefully see a big difference. I still have to work quite hard and I deffo need to ride her in spurs to now start getting us moving forward sharper, but wow, so so sooooooo happy!

Just had to indulge, I will deffo do some dressage this year (she wants me to go do some eventing

) Not having another sesh for 3 weeks so when she returns I want to have the canter mastered and REALLy show off

Well done, bet you are still grinning from ear to ear! - shows how hard you have worked, sounds like a good excuse for a new saddle too!

Excellent! Nothing better than knowing things have gone right. I'm sure she's going to be a superstar... with a jump like hers she'd make a great eventer too I'm sure.. you should give it a go!

Thanks guys, I am so so happy with her

She was supposedly well schooled when I got her, but we beg to question that as she really does not find engaging natural at all, although she tries her heart out for me now and was softening over her back today

Just got to get her jaw softer for longer now and we are well away!

C_R, I will deffo do some unaffil at my yard, but I won't ever be a BE member

I always like it when someone feels inspired by an instructor!! Well done you!!

Friend had lesson with Geoff Billington last week and said its the ONLY lesson she has ever enjoyed or got anything from!! She is in her 30's so thats a lot of previous unenjoyable lessons!

Would love a lesson with Geoff! I am in my 30s too and, having been an instructor myself for years I find it quite hard to receive instruction as I am V critical (it is a really stupid hang up I have!) However, this instructor absolutely honed in on this in our first session and let me do most of the talking whilst I rode, and told me to stop trying so hard and to stop over analysing - I KNOW what my faults are and what I need to do to correct them, it is the execution of this that goes aray

, so I go around talking to her and she talks to me, she can see when I need to soften before I can feel it as I am still getting to know the horse so shouts at the right moment and we work very well as a team!

So pleased she is going well fro you just the sort of horse you need!
Seems a fab instructor want to wing her this way?

yep good choice weezy im off to the factory next week to look at them. They have made a lot of changes to them this year. ive been using one for the last few weeks from a local fitter to see how i like it. Even better is the idea it will fit any future horses you may have. Have you ridden in one yet.

She is brilliant! She will come to your yard but its 4 people (£15 a pop) or if there are less than 4 then the rest of you pick up the shortfall (there are only 3 of us that use her so we have 40 mins instead of 30 and pay £20 each).

Not done any proper riding in one, just sat on horse when I was trying it out and instantly fell for it - my mare has SUCH a big shoulder that the fact she can move underneath it sold it for me - I adore my Ideal Springbok but there is no way in the world it will ever fit her

And yes, I love the fact that I will never have to buy another saddle again

Wow bloody hell Weezy doing Dressage?
