Thinking of getting a new noseband for my horses bridle. He is very strong, to say the least, when jumping and cantering on hacks. I have got him a kimblewick which we use when jumping, but not on hacks and dressage. Then I put an ordinary snaffle in. Was thinking of trying a Grackle noseband with my kimblewick for jumping and maybe with a snaffle when hacking. Or the Worcester noseband (just with a snaffle for jumping and hacks).

Has anyone used or has one of the two nosebands above, if so how do you find them and which one is better for a strong horse?

Also, have read a lot about the two as wanted to buy a Grackle a couple of months ago after horse bolting / taking off with me, but was advised against in in tack shop saying it does not help with stronger horses?!?!?!

I used a grackle with my old horse, it doesn't particularly help with strong ness, but stopped him from opening his mouth and getting his tongue over the bit so i had more control, so if thats the problem, i recommend a grackle. Its all about finding the right bit that works for both of you, have you tried a dutch gag? that way you can change the settings to your environment x

Ive used both but for a different reason and I prefer the grackle. I found my horse felt very strong with the worcester :confused::confused: and he isnt normally.
What about changing your kimblewick for a pelham and maybe roundings so you can keep one rein rather than clamping his mouth shut with a grackle.

Neither noseband will stop a horse being strong.

A grakle shouldn't be used with a curb bit as it sits in the chin groove, where the curb chain sits, so it makes the bit less effective.

A grakle will stop a horse opening it's mouth or crossing it's jaw so would suit your horse if he does either of these.

A worcester Noseband will apply a little nose pressure when rein pressure is applied but not much.

I was just looking to an alternative to changing his bit again. As my instructor is against using anything other than a snaffle anyway, so is only slightly agreeable to me putting in a kimblewick for jumping (have it on the snaffle setting). I think the way she explained it made sense, in that the stronger the bit I use the stronger he will become as he leans on it and really pulls.

However, for jumping I really really need the extra control between jumps, without just pulling on his mouth. Which of course just turns into a tug of war and he wins. I am just feeling stuck at the mo, as this has been going on for a year now and we don't seem to be progressing with the control and jumping. I admit its not my favourite thing to do which doesn't help.;

Anyway I was looking for alternatives and have looked into the grackle before, but never went through with getting one.
