word of warning - Lycra hoods

I am half way through DIYing mine now, i have taken off everything the face side of the ears and ended on a line as if from brow band to throat latch. Now i will finish with an elastic fastening under the cheek. I think it will work well keep ears clean and leave eyes well clear of any problems. Might post a pic when done to see if folks think my prototype looks safe. I tried pushing it and pulling it about and it is possible to displace it but not so far over the eyes

I am grateful for this thread- I have used Lycra hoods on and off for a few years, without any problems, but have now decided not to! Not worth the risk. I might think one of mine would be sensible and still if blinded, but then again, what if she didn't? Too scary :(

Did this work? I have a turnout hood with a head but not sure I want to put it on after reading this. Did the material fray at all and does it still stay up without the head to hold it on?

Falls back a little but surprisingly little considering it doesn't seem to be "held up" by much (I was going to leave ears on then I got lazy and just chopped off the whole head), but hasn't frayed at all. It's the snuggy hood ones, so totally water proof = still protects my plaits before shows and still keeps a shiny clean neck
