There is a local show to us and I was interested in entering one of the classes but unsure on the wording. There isn't an email address to contact so thought I'd see what people's opinions are

Wording is:

BEST RIDDEN OR IN-HAND LOCAL HORSE/PONY
Limited to owners & horse/pony living within 5 miles of the
showground

Does this mean both owner and horse have to live within 5miles? Or just the horse? Or just the owner? And what might one expect to have to do in such a class if both in hand and ridden?

I've never heard of such a class. I read it as both to be living locally. I have no idea what you'd be expected to do. Sounds a funny class. Perhaps ring up and ask?

I won one of these once. It was included in the class I entered and the woman gave me the extra rosette. I would take it to be your address as it's your address you put on the entering form.

If it says exactly as you have written 'Limited to owners & horse/pony living within 5 miles of the
showground' then I would expect the '&' to mean exactly that

I would imagine you will all walk and poss trot round then the inhand ponies be bought in to the middle while the riddens canter then everyone do an individual 'show' (ie the inhand do what they would normally do with a trot up and the riddens do as they would normally do)

then perhaps two sets of rosettes

The horse is local so you can enter :)

That was my initial thought, as trying to find enough people within a 5 miles radius of a small hamlet with their horse/pony might be tricky, as it's very horsey but not many houses. Still, possibly the most confusing wording ever? I will phone and check though. Trying to get hubby to enter but he hates showing. A pub lunch after might clinch it!

I used to do a show that had a local jumping class. Both should be in 5 miles, as it says.
