you will remember that the other day I had a minor mane melt down after someone else pulled bens mane and I ended up with a half thin and whispy mane and half thick mane... with the impending shows this spelt impending doom!

You were all very good bunnies and helped scrape me off the ceiling and convince me all would be ok...

So yesterday I pruned the mane a bit more, and started on the tail, I also gave him a bath, although we have another one to follow!

Here is the mane from the other day...

his tail is still a work in progress, lots of little short whispy bits to pull out over the next couple of days, I did quite a conservative pull, but i reckon that bandaged up it should look ok for our grand day out on sunday, which is after all all about experience for him.

tomorrow we trim legs and face off... friday is another bath (legs, tail and face) the yak is slowly becoming a handsome prince :p

any comments, especially on the pulling of the tail so far would be appreciated, i probably took a fingers width off both sides, nothing from the middle, and worked to about between half and two thirds down the dock... obviously bandaging is needed, and pulling of the short bits, but Im wondering if i should rake a bit away from the middle or just leave that?

Anyway, comments and tips would be great...

Mane looks much better, the thin bits will thicken up if you trim the ends regularly, whatever the YO thinks;), I use a rake on tails that are thick, if combined with careful pulling and doing it over a period of time you can get that really fine, quality look that shows the bum to its best. It will then just need a good bit off the length.
He is a handsome boy and sure to look great at the show:)

:O he'd be a handsome prince if he was dragged through a hedge backwards! ;)

mane looks soo much better :D
thank you :D I cursed myself when I realised I hadnt taken pics without the rug as he seems to have really bulked out this last week but to be fair on the little yak, I was just desperate to turn him out, he was in all day yesterday, overnight and till three this afternoon... He was still drying of last night and with the bad weather stayed in... I thought he would be on his pins to get to the field... but no, sedated donkey is a better description:rolleyes::o

Looks much better! When's your show?
thank you! still a lot to do, but getting there! I just didnt want to do all the work in one day, poor little man would have been piddled off with such a lot of work and would have been sore if i did all the pulling in one day.

The show is on sunday I hope to have him all trimmed to perfection by friday so I can just paste up his legs on saturday and focus on any wee stains and plaiting/bandaging etc....

Its just a little local riding club show, the plan is to give him a calmer, show him in the skewbald and piebald in hand, then all being well get on and just ride him around the show ground to soak up the atmosphere.

Thank you! Yes a good few inches need to come off that tail! I normally cut it stupidly short for the winter but didnt bother this year (although it did get a modest cut in october during his clip)

Yes, with regards to snipping the mane.. i plan to do that... it will get there;). I couldnt help but chuckle yesterday though, YO came back and I returned her twitch... told her id pulled the tail, we had a banter about it and she said, 'what really pulled? you didnt use some kind of gadget did you?' I replied 'Yes, YO proper pulled the tail, you can see the hair folicles and spots of blood':eek::o

I will search out my rake to thin the middle of the tail a bit...:)
