I'm considering the idea of trying to work the show season, maybe on tradestands or doing anything really.
I love going to shows, I love the idea of moving to a different place each week or so and am not afraid of hard work, though admittedly I am a little afraid of camping.
Has anyone done this, can you give me any pointers?
Is there an easy way to find these jobs, or do I have to search through every company with a tradestand? Is it easy to keep working continuously all summer? What are the pay/hours like? Do you have to camp? Im already considering getting my 7.5 or HGV licence would that be a big plus?

Any thoughts appreciated :) many thanks.

up at crack of dawn, out in all weathers, poor pay, poor conditions, crap food.
Being on the road isnt the greatest thing, unless your working with some good people.

You wont see a lot outside of the 4 walls of your tent either sadly.
Check on company websites, and send speculative CV's is your best bet- if you look on websites of big shows, they have lists of tradestands to trawl through :)

Don't do it! The job I rang up about you didn't get any petrol allowance, and had to travel all over the country. The hours are incredibly long and gruelling, you camp either in a tent or a lorry cab with several other people (described as 'cosy'), and despite non-existant washing facilities need to look glamarous every day morning to dusk.

All for a pittance wage.

Not for me :p

I loved it! It is long hours, hard work and not masses of money, but you do get to work in some lovely locations. There is a real travelling circus atmosphere, with trade stands helping each other out and good parties in the evenings. Don't do it though, if you want to see horses competing, because you won't get the chance.

There is a job at the moment on the Equine Careers website for Classic Collection. The boss, Chris, is nice and they have a very well organised set up.

Alternatively, a lot of the major shows and horse trials will have temporary roles during the summer. Less travelling, but a good way to get started in event organisation. Look at the ones that are organised by the venue themselves, if you need accommodation to be included.

Thanks guys, brought a bit of reality to my thoughts!

Dubsie, i enquired about that job a few years ago but my situation didn't allow at the time, I still fancy it too though!
