Your thoughts please.

My mare had the daddy of an abscess last week, so bad she couldn't stand. My farrier and two vets put her right and she's due to go back in with the herd on Monday if she stays sound over the weekend (she's been in the isolation paddock this week).

I'm reckoning on another week to ten days, then some light lungeing for a few days, but some people are saying sooner.

I have never given time off following an abscess, once they are properly sound there is no reason to as far as I can see, it is not like some injuries that niggle or could possibly cause further complications, however dramatic it looks initially once the pain has gone they should be fine.

Movement is good!! Just take sensible precautions - for example I wouldn't work in a school due to the possibility of the exit wound being contaminated with sand or similar....I would stick to road work!!

Thanks everyone!

She's been out in the isolation paddock all week, and the vet said once she was sound off bute she could go out in the big field. She went out for the first time today with no dressings, just a blob of hoof putty, and she's fine.

Just got to run it past the vet tomorrow, then she can go back out with her mates.
