Yeah, nothing to complicated just have some fun with her don't jump or do pole work just something you'd both enjoy.

And when she does tank with you it seems so un human to do it but drop your reins. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't she part Welsh? If so they literally just lean on you and go if you drop your reins nothing to lean on and they stop, its a scary thought but it works with welshies! :)

When I had Koko we had the french link snaffle and I would alwasy start in this bit but if he was feeling extra strong that day I would jump off him and put him in the snaffle with copper rollers.

I always got on him feeling positive and having thoughts like "He won't be strong" "he will stop when I say" but if he wasn't I would just swap bridles simple :)

Have you tried copper rollers?

she is welshxtb :p but shes doesnt lean on me she just seems to want to tank off :S
Nope never? wouild it be worth trying?
i dont want to end up changing it everytime shes strong so corrent me if im wrong it would be nicer for her mouth to have a tad stronger that stays and i dont ahve to keep changing

If shes constantly strong then yes it will be better to have a stronger bit, BUT if she is only strong sometimes when she is having a non-strong day it isn't very nice unless you are ina bit where you have two reins and then you don't use the stronger rein.

I found a copper roller D ring snaffle worked brilliant on Koko, the D ring made it easier to turn etc like a fulmer and the rollers stopped him grabbing the bit but eventually we got him in a frenchlink at all times except xc. When we got him he was in a Waterford Pelham  poor sod! There quite cheap bits aswell so your not wasting a load of money if it doesn't work :)

What bit size is she? I can mail you mine if you want to try save you spending more money on a bit, I have no use for it and we are no where near to buying a new one yet and even then we won't be trying new bits so won't be missing it? Or you can trial that bit from that website for £5. Saves you wasting money.

from 5 to 5.5 depending on the bit, and if it works will send it back and buy are own :p
thaanks x
and i know but we did that last time and didt send it back in time so had to buy it so ¬.¬ lol x

Ahh sorry Koko was a 4.5 he had a very little mouth :)

But if you do hire the bit just make sure you do send it back in time! :p

Do i start all the grid work and pole work again? shes just so strong, but i know she can go so nicely in a snaffle any ideas?

Best thing i could suggest is to go back to your flatwork and get that down to a T before you consider jumping again. I've been having dressage lessons and my jumping has improved so much, i came off my horse quite badly and put him in gag when i got back on so i had some breaks and for my confidence, but since the lessons he is back in a snaffel and couldn't be more perfect. Best tip learn to really sqeeze with your knees and dont fight your horse they're bigger they'll win! Give your inside rein away when your schooling next, see the response your horse gives you, I know and i bet you dont want to i didn't but i trusted my instructor more than my horse and the canter i got was fantastic and has been ever since. It was horrible the whole time i was riding him haveing to fight with him all the way even to get to stand, but dressage lessons did sort us right out. Hope this heps :) x

Your not supposed to grip with your knees when riding?? Who supposed to use your lower legs and seat.

errr dressage lessons dont come cheap... :/ x

It might be worth just getting a general instuctor. I teach, but i do a bit of everthing. Usually when i teach i do half flatwork then move onto jumping might be worth having a look around to see if theres somebody like that around. Its a shame your not a bit closer to me. My daughters pony thats out on loan is near you. Next time im over, we usualy visit in the school holidays ill come and give you a hand if you want.:)

whats thee ponies name..? lol
Aw really? thanks so much xx

Shes called sweetpea, the people that have got her rent a little for field for her and there other pony. Yer one of the girls i teach, does a bit of everything since ive been teaching her shes since been placed inher first dreassage and jumping!!!:)

oh no just a mad thought that i know a girl near me loaning a little pony but no lol
wow, must be a good intrustor then? :p x

Haha, i wasnt been big headed was just pointing out you dont nessary need a showjumping trainer or dressage trainer just a general instructor. An alround can help you with both flatwork and jumping and may even be less expensive. Im cheaper than the dressage bloke that comes to our yard. Although it makes it easier cos i tend to only teach at where i keep my daughters pony so makes it cheaper.:)

When your struggling to stop your horse if you sqeeze your knees they will slow up for you that was my only point! :)

But when my horse has pressure on his sides it means to speed up (in simple terms) gripping with knees will make horse go fast not slow down. Also gripping will make you less supple in your body and you won't move with the horse which normally makes them speed up aswell.

I mean this in the nicest way possible but think you need a new instructor

I wouldnt have thought so, the correct way would be with your weight and seat and half halt, gripping with your knees would probaly pull you forward and stop you using your seat properly and bring your lower leg away aswell!!!

My instructor is from southafrica, her horses are worth thousands and you should see the things she can do with horses. She is a friend and she knows exactly what she is talking about my horse does not speed up, i just dont have to fight with him the whole time any more i barely touch his mouth anymore, he's perfect thanks to her, and i will never need a new instructor due to the vast improvment in my riding and my horse! Try it for your self see if your horse speeds up or slows dont sqeeze with your legs only your knees and sqeeze hard i guarentee they will slow not speed up. :)

When I get a horse I'll try it but if I tried that on Koko he would have tanked, thats what he did if you got tense the logic behind it just doesn't work. Did your instructor say something different and you percieved it as grip with knees?

I dont touch his mouth at all not even to half hault i had no joy what so ever with that method he would just pull through me, i agree with you one hunderd percent that you should sit back, but sqeezing with your knees does work i promise my whole yard has been having lessons with this lady and there is a massive improvment in all of us. She has taught us all how to ride without any reins in all gaits and purely using our seats more than hanging off our horses mouths because she really doesn't agree with it, Before her we were all riding in Gags, now were all back in snaffels, she's amazing i'll never doubt her. Try it see if you get a response she teaches everyone different but my horse was strong and her advice to me was to sqeeze with my knees :)

See the difference from the pictures, she said sqeeze with your knees and i ride him every day using the same method, i'l never ride him anyother way he will only fight you if you pull on his mouth x

But you look tense, obviously in first one you look more but there is tension in your arms which can be cause by tension in lower body, your legs look rigid aswell, yes its an improvement but I wouldn't have said grip with your knees I would have said sit deep in the saddle move with the horse and relax.

lol i'm only less rigid because i learnt how to stop him i couldn't before lol as you can see. And i swear by it no one will make me think otherwise it's much kinder for him aswell. he just dragged me everywhere before! I'm not asking you to agree i'm just passing on a tip that worked 100% with my horse might work for someone else too! :)

That's a gag not a snaffle ;)

You can achieve what your instructor is teaching you without squeezing with your knee. Squeezing with the knee will affect your position. The best way to half halt is to squeeze your bum cheeks together - this blocks the movement without altering your position in any way :)
