quick question,

im going in novice and begginers or junior workers this weekend on a plaited are you meant too have quarter marks/ sharks teeth and all that (if so how do you do them ive had a go before but they looked stupid so went without)

I would quarter mark, and shark teeth if his hindquarters need improving. Quarter marks can be done with a mane comb, brush all the hair along the direction of growth, using some showshine or similar to dampen the hair, using a mane comb - even better if if has had 1/3 of the teeth removed from one end - place it centre top of the hind quarters parallel but 2" away from the spine, make a square/rectangle mark by dragging the comb straight downwards a couple of inches - you should now have a 4x2" mark, move a comb width to the right and repeat, a comb width to the left and repeat etc until you have a row of them parallel to the spine, now place your comb in the gap below two of the marks, with the comb now touching bottom right corner of one mark and bottom left corner of the other, drag the hair downwards, you should now see the chequer pattern appearing, repeat this in each gap of the top row until you have the second row done, i usually find three rows of these markings sufficient, but it depends on the shape of your horses quarters, you dont want them extending too far down the flanks. Hope this helps. You can of course buy a quarter marking template but i prefer being able to do them myself then you can always redo them at a show if needs be.
Good luck hope it goes well, concentrate on your jumping but most of all enjoy yourself!!

okay thanks ill see whether the other have them and do you know if your allowed stud gaurds the one i own is a sj one with red on the outside would that be acceptable if not i dont think it will matter that much because we are only jumping about 95cm
