Working full time and horses. Your routines

I get up at 6am, feed cats, drive 5-10 minutes to yard, feed horses, skip out whilst he is eating. Scrub out water buckets hang up haynet for later. Turn out about 6.40. hang hay net in field for day use. Set straight bed and out water etc in. Home by 7am out door by 7.40. Work by 8am. Leave work about 5.15, get home get changed, feed cats etc, Go to yard and either ride or pick poo and then make up dinner and breakfast and feed him. Do haynets for later in evening and next day. get home, do some chores, maybe some telly, quick supper then fall into bed ready for next day.
 
Well, I'm just coming on this thread to say you guys are amazing, I've had a horse/horses for over ten years and no way could I do what you do. Mine have always been on DIY, and now we have out own field, live out 24/7. They get checked on the way to work and on the way home again, riding is done as and when possible, as no schooling facilities, so roll on summer!
 
depending on shifts am up to mine at about 5.30 am feed anything that needs it , muck out the three messy herberts arrive at work for 7.15 am finish any time between 4 pm and 6.30pm back up to bring in and ride at least one, give another a proper groom make sure the field living welshie is still alive then pass out when I get home!!
 
Get up at 6.30am- get changed etc- out the door at 7.15am- drive to Brentwood by8am for work (horses on assisted DIY so they get fed and turned out for me) work till 3.30pm- leave at about 3.45- back to yard from brentwood at 4.30pm Muck out, bring in and ride till 6.30pm- have dinner, shower, then mark books for an hour or so- catch an hour of t.v and in bed by 10.30pm
But I have lots of holidays etc (only work 39 weeks of the year due to school terms) so in the summer the routine changes quite a bit
 
Blimey - what am I letting myself in for going diy!!! My routine will be (hopefully).

Boys turned out and fed for me in the morning (on 247 turnout in summer). I'll be at work for 8 then get to the yard around 6 - muck out, ride, put to bed (chuck back out in field).
 
Don't know how you london workers do it!
Mine is on diy and if I'm doing her that day (if OH is unavailable to help) I'm up at 5am, get to yard for 5:40 where I feed four, rug change/turn out one, muck out, put bed down, get hay ready/water ready for coming in and if I have time sweep my section of the yard. I'm usually back in my car for 7am/home for 7:20am where I get a bath and generally get ready for work. At 8:00 I leave for work and am there for about 8:10 (sometimes a bit later due to traffic). I can leave work anytime after 3:40 but sometimes work til 6pm. Recently I've been trying to go straight to the yard, get there 30 mins after I set off from work (20 mins if early and traffic good). I bring in, groom and sometimes ride the beast if menege is available. Feed, groom again to get sand off and rug up for the night. Can leave yard anytime from 6pm - 7:30pm. Go home (20 mins), eat, plan for next day/mark books and then come on here for my fix

I rarely sleep enough except at weekends. If OH is available he does her at 8am and I sleep til 7am

I'm glad it's not just me who gets up at a silly hour everyday to feed horses before work. Everyone I work with think I'm mad!

I get up at 5.30 to feed 4 horses, muck out and check the one who lives out 24/7. Luckily our horses are kept at home so I don't have to travel. I leave for the 45 mile trip to work at 6.45 stopping en route to pick up my lift share. Arrive at work around 8 then work til 4.30ish so I'm usually home 5.30-5.45. Now it's lighter I fit in a quick ride on one horse. I can't wait til the clocks change and I can ride all 3. I'm going to be a very tired Lizzie though! I'm usually back in about 7.30 for dinner and relaxing and occassionally phoning my OH before bed.

I'm happy working hard though as I love my job and could never give up my horses.
 
I have it quite easy - get up at 6 leave abt 6:20 and at yard for 6:30. Muck out and exercise horse then walk pony up hill with dog (two birds, one stone

). Get feeds ready then drop dog off with his granny and go to work. Pop back to yard in lunch hour (yard 5 mins away from office) to give extra hay, skip out TO pen and pony then back to work. After work back at yard for 6:30 depending on how busy at work to put horse in and feed, put pony out and feed, muck out pony stable and get everything ready for morning, collect dog then normally get home abt 8:30/9ish, cook tea, eat, work for a bit then bed!!!
 
Ive just got back from holidays so am happy to see the mornings and evenings a little bit lighter. I plan to begin riding 1 horse (time about as I have 2 main horses in work) for 45 mins at 6am, then feed them etc., then back in to get ready for work which I leave for at 8.30am (I start work at 10am but takes me that long to commute!). Get home at 6.30pm. Its not light enough in the evenings yet for proper riding, so Im just piddling about with the youngster - he's still at the stage where being gently ridden for 15/20 mins is enough for him. Then I feed etc. Usually in the house to relax at 7pm!
 
This is a really interesting thread, especially for us economic migrants stuck working in London.

I liked the point about using a motorcycle. Something to consider,　IMO and probably cheaper than train/tube travel too! LOL
