Hello,

I am looking for some advice re. tweed jackets!

I event but am looking to have a go at some working hunter over winter. As I don't know too much about showing, I am just wondering whether there is any particular etiquette regarding the colour of tweed jackets. I've seen green, blue and brown tweeds around, but just want to know if any in particular are favoured for working hunter horse classes?

My boy is a dark dapple grey, so of course I would like a jacket that would complement his colouring too!

Any advice greatly appreciated - thanks!

There are no rules per we, blue tweed has fallen out of fashion but there is no reason why you shouldn't choose it. You will see some people in blue/grey occasionally at county/higher level shows. I have certainly never heard a judge say anything about a rider's choice of colour, although I have sometimes heard comments made about loud over checks and very short jackets. Remember the judge is looking at the finer points of the horse and the overall picture made by the combination. The best way to make a good first impression is to look as traditional/conservative as possible.

I'd probably go for a green tweed, my YO has lots of greys and wears green :)

I always thing that a blue tweed looks a bit cheap, even when they are not!
