I'm thinking of doing some preparation for this over winter, ready for next season.
Blaze loves jumping and does well in showing classes so am going to see whether he likes working hunter.
He's a 14.2 cob x trotter.
What worries me the most is what classes could i do? He is happy jumping up to 2ft 6 at the moment. So in that sense pony classes would suit him as they are around 2ft3.
But I am 22. Some shows stipulate that I have to be 17 and under to ride him in a pony class. Yet he doesn't qualify as a horse.

Is there any hope for me out there? x

most local shows would allow you to do the 'pony' class. often split into 2 sections, under 16 and open?? Its when it gets more serious then trouble hits - i know its the same for me.
Also there are 'small working hunters' at some shows, something to consider too maybe?

At our RC you would be able to take him in the senior novice working hunter. Which is normally about 2'6", it is normally all horses and cobs but I don't think you would be excluded on a pony.

Are you sure he is only 14.2? If he is 14.3 you'd be able to do all the adult classes. Or if it is just a local unaffiliated show you could put him down as 14.3hh and compete as a horse on the basis that no one will check.

I think if you aim for riding club level shows you should be fine. There should be novice, inter and open level classes and normally heights start at 2'6ft. Some PCs also have open classes for any age of rider to enter too. I think these shows are the best type for you two to go for.

County level shows - I think most places for the height of pony you have you might not be able to enter as the age limit could be 20 and under as your pony is 144cm approx. I wouldn't enter a horse class and hope no1 will check the height - WH horse is classed as 15hh (153cms approx) at most shows. So its a noticable difference - the strides would be aimed at horses and this might show very clearly when jumping combinations and when the judge rides I think it would be noticed.

Thanks for your input

We've had him measured at 3 different heights on 3 different ways to measure him... 14.1, 14.2 and 14.3. His passport says 13.2 as that was the height he was meant to grow to (his owner had him since he was a yearling). Some shows we have tried and been able to get away with sayin 14.3 if he is in an excitable mood and rides alot bigger than he is.

He'll never be county standard...He isn't that 'reliable' to be good on show days and quite often prats around so local level will be all we'll ever aim for.

You lot seem to have nice RC shows around lol I'm still finding out the good ones to go to as new to competin at more than one show lol x
