Working Hunter Saddle

I am currently riding my 13.3hh Dartmoor X in a WH (Working Hunter) saddle. However its extremely uncomfortable and when my stirrups are at a regular or jumping height my legs stick over the knee rolls making it difficult to have good leg position. Is anyone else encountering a similar problem?

sounds like the saddle is too small for you, how tall are you? and what size seat is the saddle?

WH by definition are straight cut, the more straight cut the less leg room. The smaller the seat size the smaller the flap, hence less leg room again. You might find that for flatwork slipping a small leather loop (you can get them made) onto the stirrup bar will bring the leather and your leg backwards, otherwise you need a more forward flap and/or bigger size saddle. A lot of people, for these reasons, do end up with the knees slightly on the blocks, if not over the flaps, especially when they jump in a showing or WH saddle. It's not ideal but many showing people prioritise how the saddle looks. If you get a saddle with a short foot print (upswept panel shape) and that fits correctly behind the shoulder you may find that a neater GP sits back and still shows off the shoulder, I have quite a few people who do workers choose a neat GP model instead.
