Sorry if this has been posted before. I have use of a friend's horse and would like to do some working Hunter classes. Could anyone point me in the right direction for literature and advice on classes please. Pony is around 14 hh has feather. Need to know what classes entail at each level, tack and turnout for horse and rider please. Thank you.

Are you adult/teenager? And when you say feather, is the pony a registered native?

For Mountain and Moorland working hunter pony classes the rider can be any age. Plaited working hunter pony has rider age limits.

Class is basically a round of jumps that should be natural looking fences rather than show jumps. Some shows then send you all back in together to do a walk/trot/canter/gallop and then individual show, some just want to see individual shows. You may also have to do an inhand show (called stripping), again differs by show.

Best way to see what it entails is to go along to a show and watch, you'll get some idea on turnout as well. Other ways to get turnout tips is to look at the photos from somewhere like HOYs to see how it's done at top level.

British Show Pony Society, National Pony Society, The Showing Register etc all have rule books online so you can see the rules of the class, jump heights etc etc.
At a more local level it's a bit more pot luck but the classes are generally run the same way.

Thank you. I'm an adult, and the mare is a mixed breed. ( Nothing on her passport) she is very green and would like something to work towards.i would add a photo but don't know how!!
