Got a bit of a question for you.

If the opportunity arose where you could send your horse to a riding school for 1-2 months as a working livery to sort out behavioural and fitness issues would you?

Reason i ask is that 4 horses from our yard will be leaving this week to go to a local riding school because their owners do naff all with them.

What would be your reasons for sending or not sending?

personally, i wouldn't in terms they will have all sorts of riders on them perhaps making their problems worse or getting new issues. But it depends of the riding school like with everything you get good ones and bad ones.
However if the horse is doing nothing at all it may be better for it to at least do something even if its at a riding school.

Yes I would, but only because my own horse is on working livery at a lovely RS he gets monday and tuesday off work. Then gets max 2 hours a day at weekends. Then does about 4 hours in the week. He wouldnt be sane without it, he hates being left in a field too long.
 
I would never send my current horse as he is too sensitive and would get stressed by having lots of different riders on him. But I can see why some people might, there are some very good riding schools around and so if it would benefit the particular horse then why not?
 
I dont think i would ever send a horse on working livery,especially at a riding school!I certainly dont believe behavioural issues will be sorted(nothing to gain by 10,probably more different people a week riding them,will only infuse the problem more),they will only get worse,as for fitness would sooner he stay unfit until such time i could find the time to work with him!!Riding school horses are a certain temperament,they have to be to tolerate it all,i can only imagine this will end in tears unless the owners really dont give a stuff????
