i can't ride him at the moment, the ground is horrible in his field, we have very boggy ground in the small round school, so that's very tricky to work in. but what can i do with him?!
we have a rather large grass/small gravel courtyard, and plenty of farm land to walk around.

i've kinda burnt out of ideas of things to do with him, we've taken him on numerous walks, but both he and i are getting bored! we have jumps and poles and all that jazz.

has anyone got any ideas/tips for exercises or tasks i can do with him? anything is welcome and appreciated.

I've been using the "wheres the apple" exercises for foalie, getting him to move around me and stretch his neck and move back/sideways etc. Or you could do the random item from the house/yard slalom, which includes plant pots, heaped rugs, the odd tyre coupled with poles at different angles to go over, basically anything to make it different, or you could try a horsey massage using gently pressure over the main muscle groups in a small circular motion. My mare loves this, and will fall asleep then jerk her head up and look at you when you stop.

Haha urm well i can't ride him because he bucked me off a few months ago when i was bareback and I broke my pelvis...

And thankyou Orionstar! That's fab :)

Ok! That's a very good reason for not being on board! If you have a reasonably big flattish area, why not spend sometime getting him walking well with you, backing up and halting. Once that is established, you can started to introduce turn on the forehand and turn on the haunches. A great pole exercise to delvelop is to have just one pole out and approach th middle of the pole. You then ask each leg of your horse to step over the pole in turn. When you get clever, you can ask him to reverse over the pole, one leg at a time. Sounds simple, but requires concentration and control from both horse and handler. Bring on the better weather, and hope you're recovered soon
