Any legal experts out there? Here's the (theoretical) situation.
Landowner has private yard plus other other animals and works away part of the week.
Landowner pays normal rates.
I keep my horses there on a DIY basis, with field and stables, and in return look after owner's horse and other animals when owner is away.
No money changes hands.

Is this legal? Is there a tax implication? Owner is worried that they would be offering livery, and therefore liable to business rates.

I think it is perfectly legal if done on a 'friends' basis. It is not illegal to have a friend stay at your place for free, nor is it illegal to help a friend with stable chores.
