Hi I have pulled my Lateral Hamstring Tendon (the bit behind the knee) so the quack has said rest, elevation strapping up and pain killers and it should all just zip back into place could be a week or two. It is painful but I don't have a choice horse needs seen to no one but me to do what I have to do. My other half taking on dog walking duties (can not help with the horse as he is not comfortable around them ) My lad is very well behaved despite his young age, but he is out in the day and in at night. I am doing all the chores all be it slowly, I do have friends that I could call on but its winter and they are a good few miles away and got their own to do. It was on the mend so I went for a ride on Saturday just an hour hack loved it so did he and then well lets just say I don't think it did me any favours other than lift my mood. So this week been a bit more sensible but I did think am I my own worst idiot or do lot you be just as stubborn or what do you do ?

Much as the ride lifted your mood (and we all get that), if it aggravated your injury don't do it. Many of us have had to carry on with horse care as we have no choice but I would get your OH comfortable round the horse as you could have a problem in the future that means you just can't do him yourself. You need to get a backup strategy for when you need it. Your leg will probably take longer to heal if you can't rest it. Take care as best you can

I think you are going to prolong recovery by riding with that injury, and this is from someone who has ridden her own horses (quietly)with both wrist and lower leg plaster casts on in the past. Which was my risk, and wouldn’t suggest to anyone else.
However, there is far more mobility in strapping, the movement of the horse will definitely transmit, and further aggravate the issue.
This is where a driving pony comes into its own! Good luck.

Do listen to the medical advice and don’t be gung ho, or you risk getting set right back in your recovery. I’m also currently on the easy list due to a wrenched knee, a grade 1 (least severe) medial collateral ligament injury with a minor medial meniscal injury. The pain level varies between 0/10 if I’m sensible to a 4/10 if I twist and twang it.

Diagnosed by and on a rehab programme of exercises given to me by an excellent private physio. I MUST keep the various exercises pain free to prevent exacerbating the injury. Will be back on my static bike mounted on a turbo trainer before I’m back on a horse, as the wrapping of my legs around the horse when in the saddle riding would currently trigger it. Let alone the dismounting 😳.

I’m ok doing the horse chores at a steady pace.

Good luck, but do be sensible and don’t ride until you are fully healed.
