Just out of interest could you guys tell me what workload your horse has and how you would define it (light, medium, heavy etc), just because different people seem to vary in what they see as light, medium or heavy work.

Thankyou

id say my horse is in extreamly light work, hes hacked once or twice a week, with some lunging thrown in and if my mums brave enough to plod round the school.
if u can call that work at all!

I hack Bear about 3-4 times a week. it depends on OH working and weather and i would say its light-medium as he's only 4years old. its usually an hour, hour and a half.

Both my horse and my pony are in light work. The horse is being rebroken after several months off with lameness and a sore back as a result, so we are walking for about 15 minutes 3 - 4 times a week.
The pony is being backed and so works in-hand in walk and trot for about 15 minutes 3 - 4 times a week. Basically we stop when I run out of puff

I either ride or lunge George 6 times a week, I usually go in the school about 2 times for 30-40mins, lunger once for 20 and hack 3 times for an hour-1.5hrs, I call this light work.

Mine gets worked 5-6 times a week, including 1schooling/jumping sess or lesson, hacking and lunging. He will also compete prob every fortnight to weekly, although this varies. Would say he is in medium work.

I'd say heavy, an hour a day with one day off a week. One day would be a long(around 20Km)hack, the others schooling.
The little ones are exercised and ridden 3 times a week, and i'd say that was light!

Mine has just finished 6wk summer holiday and is now being ridden every other day for about an hr - light work.

In a month will start early morning hunting and for 4 -6 wks before opening meet will go out twice a week on average in the mornings (couple of hrs), have day off after and get hacked 2/3 days a wk - medium work.

All being well from opening meet, gets hunted twice a week, always day off afterwards and then exercised twice week - hard work!!

Then last few springs early summertimes, have taken him eventing. Event every 3 - 4 weeks, with lesson every week or two in three weeks (SJ and dressage) and maybe mini comp. every fortnight - medium to hard work because mentally its hard work for him being new to discipline and not being natural to dressage!

Interesting post!

Mine gets' hacked for 1 - 1/2 hours daily then up to 1 hr schooling or 20 mins lungeing or jumping lesson per day. But apparently that's still light work because we're not competing yet.
