World Class Development Riders Selected for 2009-2011 Programme

we are not talking about her retirement or havent you noticed? i think its fair to say most senior champion sports people dream of nothing else except winning badminton, hickstead, the FA cup wimbledon or whatever from a very young age and are certainly not thinking about alternative careers before they have even jumped round a three star in this young lady's case..
anyway as ever someone is missing the point and taking athings personally which they arent and i might remind you i wasnt the one to bring this persons name into the thread.
i am a little more inclined to be forgiving where selection of juniors/start programme is concerned because i can think of at least two british junior champions who have not gone on for one reason or another, plenty of them do find other careers and plenty more fail to make the grade when they have to start producing horses themselves instead of having schoolmasters provided. which may not be the case here but often is.

oh and most of the sports examples you give are bad ones because the lottery programme did not exist for at least three of them.

wow - you really have a bee in your bonnet about it huh.

Look I don't wanna argue with you, I bow down to your superior intelligence and clearly you know more about the subject than I. I may have missed your point, but my little point is - I don't think a young girl should be excluded because she has dreams and aspirations that don't meet what you expect them to be.

Besides, this all seems slightly pointless as Sienna has been selected and will be supported for another term regardless of our humble opinions. Maybe the question we should be asking is - Why the selection process isn't more transparent, to explain exactly to us why some riders were selected and others not?

Agree totally with you Helbert, just because she wants to do something else aswell as event, look at Heinrich at the olympics, his profession required alot more training that Sienna's does, and he certainely got there. Just because she says she wants to do the whole TV thing doesnt mean she doesnt want to work with horses too... she is an amazingly focused person

On a more positive note, I was really proud to see that Murphy's para rider got onto the start programme and she really deserves it as I know how hard she has tried to get on in para Dressage which is incredibly competitive. It was in due to her results that she got on Murphy before he sadly broke down this year, that she got onto the selection day so I am glad that I helped in my own little way by loaning him to the RDA and I hope that Tarquin quietens down so that she can ride him in future para competitions too.

totally agree with you,
even if i am insanely jealous!!!
lol

Well I am not insanely jealous but get very miffed when 2 riders in Show Jumping took additional funding of £10,000.00 as 2012 Potential Olympic Horse Hopefull's.Within 2 months 1 horse was sold for a massive amount of money & the 2nd well do your homework, they was not available for GB teams. The money was not returned in either case though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thank you but how to get on to the selection days is one thing, how they get onto the programme proper is quite another, hence my point earlier about a rider being asked to go for the selection day and then failing to get on despite some pretty good winning form, because they were 'too old'. surely they knew that before said rider wasted two days and the diesel etc etc etc. and as it happens is not any older than several others already on the programme.
as i keep saying it bothers me cos this isnt BEF's money they are spending it is regular taxpayers like myself who fund the lottery anf therefore the world class programme to an extent so i think it should be bloody transparent how everyone gets on.
whatever her future plans were at least a case can be made for Sienna as she has won a title this years. one might ask how some of the other eventers got on.

completely agree here with the points made about world class funding.
the money should be spread thinner and so more people and the general sport benefit

also this is the problem with giving money to young people and expecting them to turn professional from a young age...of course this girl should have other aspirations outside of horses, but should she be given the "horse money" probably not if she is unclear about her future career aspirations. This problem can happen when the recipients are targeted too young, surely at the younger ages the money should go into squad training where about 30 juniors benefit rather than just 3 if you get the gist.

But basically it should be spread thinner to more people anyway I think.
