Do we like it or not???

yes or no???

I Dont, i'm afraid........................

ETS, as i haven't received any replies...it happens to be the new name for the ILPH..

Nope, I much prefer ILPH. It was unusual, and couldnt be confused with anything else. WHW just doesnt do it for me

Plus I dont see the point in changing the name....it would be like the BSJA suddenly becoming something totally different - no one would identify with it

Only had one dealing with the ILPH when I rang up about a mare and foal once. They turned up the next day and were very good up to a point (round trip from Bristol which was the nearest office around 240 miles) but as usual their hands were tied and they could do very little. It's not their fault and at least I had someone to go to, I could not do anything on my own and to be honest it was almost easier to pass the problem on to them I'm ashamed to say.

hmmm well I think I shall be re-thinking my subscription if this name changed has cost as much as most corporate ones do.,........all that fund raising by us lot so they can spend it on something totally pointless.....arghhhh

Nope. Much prefer ILPH. Why do these charities feel the need to change a well rcognised name?

Like the NCDL, I can never remember it's new name. (Dogs Trust I think)

Have to say I prefer ILPH, thought I was just being a stick in the mud. Wonder what will happen to all the horses names that were affixed ILPH? WHW before a name looks a bit like someone swearing to me

Good grief; I still remember shillings, I can't be doing with all this change. You'll be telling me next Maggie Thatcher is no longer in power!

I'm sitting on the fence on this one (nothing new there then!). I didn't see the need for them to change their name, and told them so in their questionnaire, but I do think it describes their aims better, plus I prefer the new logo.

Hadn't even thought about the cost of it though..

Crikey I thought this thread was going to be about what horse welfare is like in the rest of the world....

Doh! I knew they were planning to change to this name aswell; shows how much I remembered eh?

It shows that the person who "invented" the new name must be a real whizz with words and catchy logos ... the name sounds very childish to me, and nowhere near as authoritative sounding as ILPH. The logo is nasty.

Nope, don't like it one iota.

Our Council has decided to change it's name and logo, and the INITIAL design costs will be £50k

Why did they change there name?

Here is what they say.

A Roadmap for World Horse Welfare
the new name for the ILPH

Why has our charity changed its name? Quite simply, so that we can do more for horse welfare both in the UK and overseas; and to do this we have created a ‘roadmap’ to guide our future development.
From an operational perspective, the roadmap for World Horse Welfare is a shift in the way we look at horse welfare abuse and the origins of this abuse. It takes a more complete approach to our work, and provides us with the opportunity to expand the role of the charity to tackle the root causes, as well as the effects, of horse cruelty. It recognises that the charity cannot be the answer for every challenge to horse welfare, but that it can play a more prominent role in defining the problems and coordinating practical solutions.

The roadmap is founded on the achievements of the ILPH over the past 81 years, such as our outstanding work in the rehabilitation and rehoming of horses within the UK. It seeks to build on these successes, but also acknowledges the path we have increasingly been taking in recent years, and where we intend to go over the next decade.

This roadmap is a step change in the life of the charity; it develops our outlook from an organisation that was once primarily focused around the ‘protection’ of the individual horse to one that supports the ‘welfare’ of many.
What does this mean for our operations in practice?

You can continue with the story here

It could rebound on their fund raising. At least everybody knows what the ILPH is and it is generally respected.

A mad idea.

I dont like it. I assumed it was because Im over 30 now and getting stuck in my ways. Glad to see others dont like it either!

Any "rebranding" exercise always seems like a total waste of money and time to me, this one is no different as far as I am concerned. It always seems to me that it is a way for people to make themselves feel busy and to be doing something!

You are all being very unfair just throwing up opinions left right and centre. Those of us who know and understand ILPH know what it is but too many people do not. There is too large a percentage of the population who dont know what ILPH stands for and they are working very hard to get more knowledge out there and being careful where they spend their money. Go and talk to their volunteers if you go to Badminton go there and talk to them and donate instead of pouring your money into someone elses pockets!

Why be ashamed to say? You reported something what you were worried about. How would cases come to light without people reporting them? Well done you i say. You did your best.

Due to the cost ones out in new homes will remain ILPH ones in there care will change.

Personally i like ILPH as i remember and know them as it. I don't see how a name change can change your work. I don't wish this to sound against them at all but is my opinion. Joe public and the grannies who know them who donate to rhem understand what they do not just the horse world. They advertise everywhere with pictures which got the message across. I personally think some will find it confuseing. It will also cost a redicilous amount of money. The ILPH do good work and well known. The new name just doesn't stick with me and it hasn't many others who have rang me about it confused - non horsey people! It is getting them well talked about and in the news, should bring in loads more money to cover the cost.

I personally prefer ILPH but whenever I've raised money for them I always had to translate it to International League for the Protection of Horses which was quite a mouthful.
Only horsey people know what ILPH means. At least World Horse Welfare is self explanatory and will reach a wider audience.

A new name will not make a blind bit of difference, or increase knowledge with the public at large. Those who are interested in horse welfare know what ILPH stands for, and those who aren't couldn't give a sh*t about it, whatever it was called. People who are not interested in horses will not donate just because of a name change. Therefore, in my opinion, and many others judging by the replies on this post, the rebrand was unneccessary and a waste of (donated) money!
