Hi Guys ,
Posted in tack room should have done it in here .
You may have remembered that I took on a new livery in an emergency situation. Well he’s settled in great however since he arrived he’s had bad thrush it’s the worst I have ever seen.

I mentioned it his owner who said she hadn’t been told by pervious yard who where supposed to do everything but he did used to get when he was in wok . I have been using what i do on mine if they get a bit of thrush . But this isn’t a bit and it doesn’t seem to be clearing up .

We are picking his feet out at least 3 times a day and applying thrush treatment . I am trying to keep his bed as clean and dry is skipping out every time I see him poo. Help please !

Any miracle products

Brush the sulcus REALLY clean with a very stiff brush, flush out with something mild like diluted ACV, and pack in cotton wool coated in Sudocrem. Remove and repeat rwice a day. You could add Atheletes foot cream to the Sudocrem if it's stubborn

Don't use anything too harsh - it will add to the dead smelly tissue.

Any treatment has to reach the very bottom of the cracks in the sulcus, which can be hard if the heels are contracted. A syringe with a long flexible tip can help.

Thrush causes pain, so they don't land on their heels, so they don't get stimualated and they contract. This exacerbates the tendancy to thrush. Visious circle which needs to be broken.

Diet is important too - make sure the horse is geting enough copper and no added iron.

It will not be a quick fix - you will need to be patient, diligent and persistent, for weeks and months. Your horse will be so relieed once the pain is gone though. Good luck!
