Important note for stallion owners and semen agents on this list:

As you perhaps already know, Breeding News for Sport Horses publishes a Worldwide Sport Horse Stallion Directory every year, and the information for the 2008 edition is currently being updated. For 2008, the directory will include over 7,000 approved stallions exclusively representing studbooks recognized by the WBFSH. Entries in the directory are free of charge to studbooks and breeders.

If you stand a stallion graded with a WBFSH member studbook – or hold an exclusive agreement to market imported semen for a stallion graded with a WBFSH member studbook – then you would may well wish to have his details included. However, although studbooks are asked to provide this information on an annual basis, some studbooks have not always done this, so the list is not as complete or accurate as it should be. For this reason Breeding News has now set up a web page so that you yourself can enter a new stallion in the Directory or update an existing stallion’s details if these have changed. To do this you must go to http://www.breedingnews.com/forms/stallionupdate.html and fill in the on-line information form. Please note that the FINAL deadline for receiving updated stallion information is 31 December 2007 for the 2008 edition so a swift response would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, pony stallions (even if graded with a WBFSH member) are not eligible for this Directory. Also, only TB stallions graded with a WBFSH studbook are eligible and neither Weatherbys NTR nor The General Studbook falls into this category.

Ciss, do you know-are the SSH and AES represented? And are the entries effectively adverts or more substantial than that?

From a quick check a few SSH stallions seem to be but not many and the AES list is certainly incomplete as I understand that they have not bothered to make any returns for about 3 years.

The list is certianly not a list of adverts for the studbooks concerned. All stallions are listed alphabetically by name with the following details:

Life number
Birth Stud Book
date of birth
Sire
Dam
Dam' sire
Height
Colour
Stud Books approved by
Contact details (all stallions are also cross referenced in an alpabetical list of owners and owners addresses at the end)

Given all that info can be entered into the list FOR FREE !! I do think that studbooks should make every effort to send in up to date lists but if they don't then the stallion owners should do it directly asap.

Ciss thanks for letting us know, always interesting to hear of these things...

Does the directory also include photos of the stallions?

Not in the listings section, so usually only if there is an advert for them or their stud. Pics of 7000 stallions would take up rather a lot of space!
